When you have an official statement not some unnamed source let me know. The first two are in Trump's proposal. Why would the Democrats object to the last two?

"In a statement following the president’s address on Saturday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said he intends to bring the president’s proposal to the floor, though key Democrats have already made clear that they are not interested."

I don't have a case for 'open borders', nor do the Dems. You need a new talking point...

I doubt they would.... Once again, the Trumpublicans wouldn't know a "clean bill" if it crawled out a shell (sorry Mitch).... Why in the hell are they adding all this crappola to a bill to open the government??

It wasn't much. A temporary relief for DACA? Gov't still shut down? He threw out a crumb and a moldy crumb at that.

I guess the Clemson team didn't eat all that cheap-ass food in the WH... Knowing the Donald, he packed a few hamburders away for a rainy day...

I would be very surprised if Mitch brings it to the floor. He hates it when he loses. He probably can't get 40 Republicans to vote for it.
He needs to allow amendments then they can make DACA permanent and the Dems might carry him over the line, but of course Coulter will veto it.
Or Schumer could help him pass it and send it over to Pelosi for the amendment. That would be better optics for the Dems.

I agree that adult negotiation is demanded. Speaker Pelosi and Donny must put their egos aside, and the latter must be willing to settle for less that the $5.7 billion that Republicans, in control of both house of Congress, would not give him for two years.

    As I noted elsewhere,

I would like to see sensible, comprehensive immigration reform, not based upon campaign hoopla by a candidate with no experience whatsoever in such matters who hyped a big, beautiful wall that Mexico would pay for.

Define objectives and assess the most cost-effective ways to institute a coherent policy that takes advantage of technology to surveil the entire border 24/7 to achieve interdiction, design and fund an efficient method of processing asylum seekers, track those who enter the US via visas and their status at the time those those visas expire,
issue work permits to the millions of law-abiding undocumented workers essential to so many American businesses, etc.

Appoint a commission of security and other appropriate experts independent of politics to study the matter and publicly issue an informed report on the best way to achieve the desired goals.

Let Americans decide if they support expert advise.
In the meantime, I'd like to see some gesture as a show of good faith by Democrats that would cause Trump to re-open the government that he was proud to shut down and for which he stated that he would not try to blame others.

Congressional Republicans and Democrats have tried to re-open government, but that ball remains in Trump's court since he was proud to assume that mantle.

    I never said that.
How many times do you have to repeat the same strawman?

A president can lose the popular vote and win the electoral college

I see the bean counters are saying that food stamps for February will be sent out early, with a warning not to overspend..possibly because the shutdown might not be resolved by February....
Blind freddie can see that they KNOW the shutdown wont be resolved by February...hence the issue of February's foodstamps early...how will people survive on advance foodstamps, knowing that their next stamps wont issue until March....thats a long way away.....
    Congress...what a fukin circus......lets all blame Trump.....pft........

After that it's up to Spanky and his assistant Ann.

As the man said, there are others who support him. We'll know more this week when it heads to the Senate. Nancy is in the House so it's up to Chuck to do the whipping, Can you rely on Chuck Schumer to whip them into shape?

Yeah right the Dems have consistently voted for additional fencing, way more than Trump is asking for. Multiple times and all your leaders praised it, now it's all politics period. Every country should control it's boarders, this is a joke that's out of control and we all know it.

The electorate showed the same disrespect for his opponents because they were all saying much the same thing and were all swamp related. Trump made sure he distanced himself from the lot of them.

What you're looking at is not the success of Donald Trump but his means of obtaining that success. But if the country is successful then what matter is it if he's a braggart, tweets too much, etc. Sometimes it's necessary to be inelegant and just do what's right. Security of the border is a good example of both the dithering of the swamp and the just get it done attitude of Donald Trump.

Can you offer a sincere working plan by the Democrats for security at the southern border? They've had years to work on it, decades, but nothing's been done. We only know what they're against. What genuine proposal have they offered?

Is it so out of control that illegal immigration has reached a decades low and the total number of illegal immigrants in the country has gone down?

Wait... so you guys are trying to simultaneously claim that nothing has been done in decades, and yet Democrats are hypocrites because they voted for 700 miles of fencing in 2006?

And you wonder why you’re laughed at when you clutch your pearls?

The still thinking left is urging Pelosi/Schumer and the DP House to end the shutdown.

"Mr. Trump’s offer should be welcomed but not accepted as the final word. There should be room to talk about the amount of money; how border security will be defined and enhanced; which categories of dreamers and TPS beneficiaries are covered; what their legal status will be, and for how long. But to refuse even to talk until the government reopens does no favors to sidelined federal workers and contractors.

Unquestionably a deal would contain galling elements for both sides; that’s the nature of compromise. But a measure of statesmanship for a member of Congress now is the ability to accept some disappointments, and shrug off the inevitable attacks from purists, if it means rescuing the lives of thousands of deserving people living among us."

Right. Nothing has been done for decades, despite promises, which is why the electorate got fed up and voted for Donald Trump. You obviously haven't thought this through.
