'New Jersey State Senator Loretta Weinberg thinks she knows how to prevent accidents with firearms, but it’s nothing new to Second Amendment advocates. You see, Weinberg recently took pen in hand to advocate for so-called “smart gun” technology. She feels that it’s time for New Jersey to embrace new technology that will do so many wonderful things.' 'For Sen. Weinberg, here is a question worth answering first. Who will be responsible if someone tries to use a smart gun to defend themselves but can’t because the technology failed?' I really don't need the hassle of rebooting my Sig under stress. Source: https://bearingarms.com/tom-k/2017/09/19/no-new-jersey-not-need-embrace-smart-gun-technology/
It has already been proven that common magnets can defeat the currently available technology that supposedly renders firearms useless to anyone other than the registered owner.
While there may someday be some merit to this idea, the current context for implementation renders it useless, and its supporters push it ahead of an ulterior motive.
And never mind that all NIB smart guns will have the interface in the box, which means that guns acquired from straw purchases, FFL diversions and street sellers who get their guns from those sources will be fully operational in the hands of criminals.
the most pernicious part of the scheme to make smart guns "available" is that the proponents generally claim once those guns are available, other firearms should be banned from future sale or perhaps ownership
What about all the existing firearms? Will she want to outlaw them if smart guns were readily available?
When the military, Secret Service, FBI, and most other LE agencies start carrying the so called 'Smart weapons' and create a history of increased safety and reliability I might take a look at the tech. Until then...
There is no 100 % reliable computer technology, do you want to trust your life to quirky technology ? I sure do not. Keep guns stupid simple stupid. K.I.S.S.
