Frankly yes... Bernie would be too old in 2020,
in spite of his many positive qualities he would be a very hard sell
against President Trump at that time........

If Econ4Every1 could be encouraged to enter the race for the office of National Leader of the Democratic Party.......
you might even be tempted to vote for him.

He is one of the most astonishingly well informed economists that I have
ran into so far........ and he is a poster on this forum!

Trump's desire to reduce the deficit. Can someone explain to me how this is a good thing?

Frankly..... I just thought of another option for Econ4Every1......
although he fits better in the Democratic Party.........
if he would join the G. O. P. and we began a movement for him to be
    elected in 2024.........
he could single handedly increase the effectiveness of the President Trump administration by
    ten percent or more.........

    the man is astonishing!!!!!!

Trump came out of nowhere. The same could easily happen for democrats.

If the improvement of the economy is sustained by the end of the Trump term, his odds of winning again would be reasonable and the quality of the democratic candidate would matter a lot. If not, then he probably couldn't even beat a Clinton.

You know that, while not stellar, we had rising home prices, cuts to government employees, full time job increases (not great, but there) and an average 12% growth in the stock market, for the last eight years - and Republicans basically said it was a bad thing. Same BS - different day.

There is a chance we will see Mark Cuban as the Democrat's candidate. He hates Trump enough to run against him.

Like it matters who you like ! You read the DNC emails . The DNC tell the MSM who you must vote for , then they go out and spread the word , Democrats then do as their told . But, you can still have your little poll.

President Trump would probably be quite happy if Kevin O'Leary wins the Canadian Conservative Party leadership race.

For all his many flaws.... Kevin is a fantastic writer!

I do believe that this was far better than a global Great Depression!

Although the whole thing could have been handled even better.... President Obama and his team do deserve
some credit for how they handled the crisis of 2008 and 2009.

I don't have any names. But considering the Democratic bastions are in the Northeast and West Coast with little in-between, what they refer to as flyover country, barbaric country to them. I would suggest a leader or leaders from flyover country. Relying solely on California and New York to win races in my opinion is a bad idea.

If I were a Democrat, I would want a fairly young person. Someone with fresh and new ideas. Someone who can appeal to middle America, not just the far left. Those who affiliate or identify themselves with the Democratic Party has dropped from 51% in 1975 down to 30% today in the 1-5 March Gallup poll. That is quite a comedown. The Democratic Party is lucky in that the Republicans have failed to add to their base starting off in the high 20's and remaining there for the most part. Although every once in a while they have reached into the low 30's. The GOP base is at 26% in the same poll.

Most Americans are in the middle ideological wise, not far right or far left. They want cooperation between parties where feasible although standing one's ground on some issue is also good at times and understandable. Only 40% of all Americans have a favorable view of the Democratic Party, 37% of the Republican Party. There in lies the rub. A majority of Americans either view both major political parties bad for the country or one or the other is bad for the country. The nominations of Clinton and Trump reinforced that idea as the majority of Americans wanted neither.

Whomever becomes the leader of the Democratic Party needs to reach out to middle America and not just the far left liberals. There was a time between 1930-1980 where the Democratic Party was known as the big tent party. When it attracted not only the left, but the middle and some on the right. That big tent is gone, those in the middle have become independents, non-affiliated leaving the Democrats with just the extreme left. A successful new leader will reach out once again to the middle they have discarded.

Perhaps I should have said 1994 was when the big tent ended, that was the year the Democrats finally lost control of the people house, the House of Representatives. The Democrats controlled the House for all but four years between 1930-1994. That would be my qualifications for a new leader, fairly young, with fresh new ideas and not from the Northeast or West Coast. Someone who can attract and reach out to middle America in flyover country.

I have a suggestion for you for a young economist who I believe
    can do all these things.

I quote him in post #1 here in this discussion:

Best explanation for Weimar Republic Inflation I ever read....
    ....

I can certainly understand your skepticism but if five or ten of us here on this forum
really liked a particular candidate we could give him or her a boost in fame which at this
stage of the game could just possibly put them over the edge that would make them more
famous at the time when they need that publicity.

Please take a look at post #117.... the economist that I quote there is pretty amazing!

Exactly. A man with a head on his shoulders. I think he is exactly right. That we are headed in that direction there can be no doubt. Robert Mendelson would be ideal.

Yes...... Robert has astonished me over the years...........
I often end up yelling at him over the phone when we start arguing.......
but the man is one of the most off the scale intellects that I have ever had the privilege of vehemently disagreeing with......

That young economist will also astonish you......
I will give you a hint...... in this discussion you will find a video interview..... it was back near the beginning of this thread....... you will be amazed when you find it!

Personally... I am expecting President Trump to be re-elected but the right opponent who would
approach politics in a less adversarial manner could help to benefit Americans.

The sitting president has so much power today, almost no way will Trump be challenged in 2020. The DEM will be a sacrificial lamb, (see Mondale '84, Kerry '04).

2024 will be very different than today. The current DEM line-up does not fare well with the silent majority, (think of a corn farmer in Nebraska).

Are there any DEM business folks? Some sort of moderate with business background that is not an insider?

This man has astonishing potential if he could be convinced to run for the leadership of the DEMS....
he fits your description really well....

Should AboveAlpha allow us to set him up for the office of POTUS as early as 2016?

I have another possible angle for you.....
    Mitt Romney.....
becomes an actor... playing the role of himself....
and he is working for the Democratic Party largely on a semi-reality science fiction
film series set partly in 2012....where he supposedly is elected White Horse President of the United States....... Combined with this proposed series is virtually unlimited financing.....

Could a Utah State Dollar save the USA Dollar?
