High-end retailer Nordstrom is cutting almost 400 jobs as it prepares to shut all its stores in San Francisco amid rising crime and a faltering economy in the city.

According to official filings, a total of 379 jobs will be axed at the department store, which is in the Westfield San Francisco Centre shopping mall, and the Nordstrom Rack outlet a few doors down.

The upscale firm announced it was shutting both stores earlier this month, blaming the 'changed dynamics' of the crime-ridden city...

...Big-name stores such as Walmart, Sears and Walgreens have been forced to shut stores, while 50-year-old discount home goods chain bed Bath & Beyond filed for bankruptcy in February and is in the process of shuttering all its stores.

San Francisco has been particularly badly affected - with rampant crime leaving numerous downtown retailers throwing up their hands and moving out.

In April, Whole Foods announced it was closing its stores in Trinity Location just one year after opening due to widespread drug use, theft and aggressive behavior towards staff members...

Goodness gracious me. Who could possibly have seen this coming? What a totally unexpected blindside!

So does San Fran have a plan to do something about all the white maga shoplifters and looters?

Sell MAGA hats, nooses and bottles of bleach? Call it the Just Jussie gift set.

An about to be $18.00 minimum wage is going to make it even worse. There is no cushion to absorb losses/downturns and they are pricing people out of the market for homes, food, and basic necessities when kids fresh out of high school can be starting at at least $45K a year for no-skill, no effort jobs, let alone what it is going to cost to have decent workers.

I am both sad that this is happening in some of our cities, but glad as well because it should help serve as a warning against hyper partisan policy making. These are progressive issues in California, but hyper partisan policy from any side of the isle will always result in calamity.

It has gotten so bad even mall owners are just giving the property back to the bank.

    https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets...ner-hands-property-back-bank-exodus-continues

S.F.'s market for business office space is also crashing. Part of it is remote from work but another part is so many companies have just left S.F.. Plus the business areas with those office towers is very unsafe with open drug abuse, armed violence, and drug addicts enabled by leftist policies constantly robbing anyone and everyone in order to get their next fix. We are seeing companies just surrending office towers and hotels back to lenders because they just can't make it work. Those banks then try to sell those office towers but their price has easily dropped in half since 2019.

So, they are closing 2 stores in an area of 7.7 million and people celebrate it like they just won the super bowl.

Sometimes that's the only thing left to do. As a matter of fact Westfield, which is the company in your article, has dumped ALL of their 27 malls in US back to lenders (one 3 miles from my house), but leave it to FOX to twist it into political talking point about San Fran.

Still can't believe Newsom actually thinks Republicans caused this as all this is directly linked to Far Left driven policies. Newsom has lost touch with reality.

Do I remember correctly that we discussed a bill that outlawed interfering with shoplifters making its way through the system in California or San Francisco? I guess it passed?

Now Bed Bath and Beyond, that was an example of a business that took all the wrong moves during the pandemic and made shopping impossible while other companies were discovering new ways to serve their customers. My local store required scheduling an appointment to enter the store and the store was closed.

God! I'm so thankful that our Governor, with an Executive Order, outlawed all the Chinese Virus Tyranny (mandatory mask wearing, business/school closures, etc.) early on!

It is not really a homeless crisis; it is a drug crisis. Fact. Decriminalization and deciding not to enforce drug violations has been a disaster here in California. Before, judges could tell addicts "complete rehab or go to jail" so the vast majority would go to rehab and complete it because they didn't want to go to jail. Now? They just get let out so almost no one goes to rehab and the few that do pretty much just check themselves out the moment they start withdrawal.
