A Norwegian man has been sentenced to 6 years for making a smoothie with crushed up abortion pills for his girlfriend.
He caused her pregnancy to be terminated without her permission.

A man who admitted tricking his girlfriend into having a miscarriage by giving her a smoothie laced with abortion pills has been jailed for six years.
The man, who earlier he said he feels like a 'sh*tbag' for his actions, has also been ordered to pay the victim 200,000 kroner ($23,000) in damages.
The 26-year-old from Trondheim in central Norway pleaded guilty to inflicting serious bodily harm and also to terminating a pregnancy without the mother's consent after appearing in court.

The man told Trondheim court that he felt like a sh*tbag after giving his ex-girlfriend the smoothie laced with the drugs
The man says he gave his former partner, with whom he already had a child, the drugs after he found out she was pregnant after they had a one-night stand at a mutual friend's party.
He told the court in Trondheim that after she refused to have an abortion, he gave her pills that were meant to induce a miscarriage after buying them online and telling her they were painkillers.
But when they went for the first scan, and the midwife told them that the baby was healthy, he admitted being devastated.

The man then bought more of the pills online and made a smoothie out of them for the woman, aged 20, who was immediately hit by stomach pains.
She then visited her GP, who confirmed that she had suffered a miscarriage brought about by a high dosage of abortion pills.
The man told the court: 'I had a bad conscience and felt remorse, but thought that it was the only way out.
'I read online that pills could cause deformities if they did not work.

The man had bought the pills online and first gave them to the woman, telling her that they were painkillers.
'After the first attempt didn't work, I thought that if it was my fault that the child was born with major malformations, I would not be able to live with that. So I decided to try again.
'I felt like a total sh*tbag when it dawned on me what I had done.'
State prosecutor Kaja Strandford called for the man to be sentenced to the maximum of seven years in jail.
She told the Adresseavisen newspaper: 'He imported these substances. All of it was precisely and cynically planned.'

Why is it if the woman terminates her fetus it's all okay, but if it's the biological father who decides to have it terminated, everyone feels sorry for the woman who lost her baby, and vengeance is exacted on the man?
Seems like a double standard here.

Let's face it, the man here was actually being punished for much more than just "affecting the woman's body".

The ideology of feminism has entrenched itself in Norway's society, and what Norwegian women are really outraged about is that the choice - to have a baby or not - has been taken away from the woman. (Never mind the notion that the man should have any choice)
This actually has very little to do with how her body was actually affected.
(Instead of a birth she was made to go through a miscarriage, not a big difference, just from the standpoint of how that physically affects her body)

The double standard is blatantly obvious. Everyone knows a life inside there is being terminated. It's just that people want to make an exception when it's the choice of the mother.

But judging by the severity of the punishment, this is about more than just the woman's body. If it had just been simple assault on the woman's body, feeding a woman an abortion pill when she wasn't pregnant, and she just suffered a period much heavier than normal, the father would not have been sentenced to 6 years.

Tell me, what were those $23,000 in damages for?

This sentence screams that it wasn't just a clot of tissue in there.

He could have killed her. This is a very serious assault

The abortion pills weren't going to kill her.

I don't see what's so extremely serious about adding some extra hormones to a woman.
Female bodybuilders do that all the time.

Maybe you're referring to emotional suffering as the result of losing her 'fetus' ?

Anything she suffered during the miscarriage she was very likely going to suffer through birth anyway.
In fact, if we go by anti-birther logic, these pills probably saved her a lot of suffering.

Are you a doctor? This is an assault. Do you deny this?

A very minor assault (if we're just talking about the woman).

Now, were you also referring to assault on the fetus?

Women get pregnant and then later stop being pregnant all the time. Pregnancy is, in the overall scheme of things, a very temporary condition.
So what's so terrible about making a woman un-pregnant ?

It’s amazing that you cant see the difference between a woman terminating a pregnancy and a man terminated it against her will. I bet you will think it is the same crime if someone tries to commit suicide and someone murders someone . If I cut off my finger is of the same if you cut off my finger against my will?

Let's just imagine the baby inside of her was a simulation dummy and then look at it from there.

And we're not talking about just any man, we're talking about the biological father.

The father didn't "decide to have it terminated". The father poisoned the mother.

There is no double standard. There are essentially two roles involved in pregnancy, the role of the biological parent and the role of the individual pregnant with the child. Both roles carry their own sets of rights and responsibilities. In most cases, the mother is also the person pregnant so she is subject to both sets of rights and responsibilities while the father is only subject to one set as a parent. In some cases, such as surrogacy, the pregnant person can be someone other than the biological parents. In those cases, the mother and father have exactly the same rights and responsibilities while the surrogate has the rights and responsibilities of pregnancy.

I presume we're only talking about just the effects on the woman's body, correct?

Without intent to kill her. Those abortion pills are not exactly "poison". They just induce abortion of a pregnancy.

If they're so dangerous, why did pro-choicers fight and succeed to make them available without a prescription in the U.S.?

If pro-choicers are going to tell everyone that it's just "a clump of cells", they better be careful when men decide to treat their unborn baby that way.

The current law seems to enshrine the idea that it's okay for the mother to kill her fetus if she so desires. So it's not surprising that there may be some fathers out there who think terminating their fetus isn't that bad. After all, women have it done all the time.

Do you think it could be said (philosophically) that if the father chooses to abort his fetus, it is to some degree less wrong (but still wrong) than if it had been some random man with no biological relation to the fetus?

Poisoning doesn't need to involve the intent (or even the possibility) of death. Any medical drug given without the appropriate clinical knowledge and support can be poison. Aspirin can be poison in the wrong circumstances.

I've nothing to do with that so have no idea (I'm neither pro-choice or American). It strikes me as a bad idea but maybe they felt there were too many artificial blocks being put up to them being legitimately proscribed? That seems to be how the "debate" plays out over there. :(

No, it enshrines the idea that it's OK for a pregnant person to terminate the pregnancy. Consider my surrogacy example - in that case it isn't the biological mothers choice.

There is a clear distinction between deciding that it should happen and taking action to cause it to happen. Clearly the biological father has a major interest in what happens but not even they can force the mother in to either abortion or birth. There is no perfect answer to this kind of situation, but this is the least worst one overall.

Pro-choicers have done such a great job convincing everyone what a horrendous thing pregnancy is and how beneficial abortion is, but all that gets turned back around on them when it comes to trying to argue why it's so imperative the woman should have the right to remain pregnant.

Moronic assertion on your part. Pro-choice means that the mother has the choice - not that abortion is good or bad. Blathering absurdities on your part does not change that.

So you're attitude is that men can do anything they want to women without any consequences? That's pathetic.

Just because YOU don't see anything serious about harming a woman doesn't mean it isn't serious....

You have no proof of that...you can't because it isn't true....

No, no one s turned around...Pro-Choice means the woman should have the CHOICE...and she does :) And YOU don't . :)

What TF don't you get about the FACT that impregnating a woman does NOT mean you own her.

The fetus is NOT part of the man's body....if it was he could do anything he wants but he has no right to anyone else's body...or what's in it.

And getting pregnant does not mean that you own the fetus and can do with it whatever so you please.

Now, let's talk about what that money was for. Was it for the harm to the woman's body, or the fetus?

In the pro-choice world, a woman owns her fetus, like a slave.

Bet you that man would not have been sentenced to 6 years if the woman was not pregnant and the man had given her that smoothie.

Yes, it does. Here's the question NO Anti-Choicer has ever answered:

IF THE WOMAN DOESN'T OWN HER OWN FETUS, WHO DOES?

    YOU?

    The government?

    WHO?

In Anti-Choice world, women are slaves who have no right to their own bodies.
