Notice that Gorbachev had to show his ID and sign a form to vote.

You appear to harbor hatred of Russia. Please, explain to us why that is.

My post was to show that Russia is not afraid to use the ID form in order to vote. And being the past leader of their country does not excuse even him from showing his ID

I am an American who has voted in more free elections that that guy has. I don't have a lot to learn from a video of a former dictator of Communist Russia casting a ballot, about how to legislate election access and standards.

Brilliant! Equating a constitutional democracy like ours with what remains of a totalitarian dictatorship. Had anyone done that a few years ago they would have been branded a commie. But, as always, a right winger can get away with anything.

Robert does not like democracy, civil liberties, and does like Russian authoritarianism. Of course he idolizes Gorby.

Funny how for years right wingers told us Russia was the enemy. Today, the right wingers love Russia but not the USA.

Well there you go. I got away with truth and honest desire for a better voting system than we have in the USA. I would love to know all votes are by legal citizens. Wish Democrats would join me.

It is amusing to read myself get called a right winger. Wonder why the political compass test did not provide a clue?

Any normal country wil ask for id to be able to vote.
In belgium we get a paper in the mail where we have to go vote and we have to bring that+id with us or we dont get to vote and go home to get them.

Best thing here is if we dont vote we get a fine/ticket a few weeks later

Its kind of sad that russia does it like mpst countries and the us is stil behind on that

Asking for voting ID is fine by me.

Using Russia to Americans, though, it not wise.

They don’t. They object to certain voter ID schemes because they achieve very little while making it harder for legal citizens to vote and it is often believed that is entirely intentional, with political and/or social bias in mind.

Voter ID doesn’t address the vast majority of actual voter fraud and other election issues and yet the people pushing for voter ID rarely seem to talk about measures to actually address any other the other issues, such as old and insecure voting machines, the extent and flaws in absentee voting and poor voter registration management.

Incidentally, are you aware that Gorbachev (and all other Russians) is legally required to have that national ID? Would you accept that as an element of a voter ID requirement in the US?

you say that you're a centrist, yet i've only seen gop negativity from you, which on it's face would be ok considering we're currently in a gop term, but when you vehemently speak out on things such as voter fraud, you deliberately omit the left/dems... that doesn't make sense coming from a self professed centrist...
