Pitbulls are dangerous, they are made for killing and mauling and have NO use in society. It is high time to make this breed illegal, or restrict ownership. I think that goes a bit too far. Make the owners have insurance and post a bond to back it up. The owners will be responsible for their dogs actions without the protection of bankruptcy should the dog attack someone.
So what you're saying according to the article is that this child entered a private yard that was fenced in. It does not state whether the owner had beware of dog signs posted. I hate to be callous but 90% of this is this kids own fault. He shouldn't have entered the property in the first place. And make no mistake my 2 german shepherds could kill a kid as well. Its not the breed it's how the dog is raised. Just a little tidbit of information for you, the number one biting breed is the cocker spaniel. Also for those who have some age to them like me and remember the little rascals...Petey was a pit bull.
Pitbulls are one of the most popular breeds in the U.S. (next to the chihuahua) so logically, it makes sense that most dog attacks would be from pitbulls.
I know personally four pit bull owners and the dogs they own are among the nicest dogs I've ever encountered. Hold the individual owners responsible for their dog's transgressions.
