In politics, we consider MOAR than just law and statute. We consider the MOTIVES and actions.

The statutes will be revealed soon enough, by Mueller. We however see the corruption clear as day.

    DRAIN THE SWAMP!

The point of the OP was clear, even to you. You're just being obtuse.

There is no such thing as a gun rights group in Russia. The whole idea that there would be a gun rights group in a dictatorship run by a secret policemen is just plain absurd. And yet, we had right wing pundit and politicians actually trying ot give credence to this clearly fraudulent front!

Only a complete fool would believe such an idiotic notion.

And if the complete fools happened to be guys like the NRA managemement, who are apparently not too worldly, and the package comes in the shape of a red headed party girl bearing checks, and your organization is a 501c4 so you don't have to report your sources, and you can use this cash to spread influence throughout the GOP, who cares if it's Russian money?????

The NRA did not seem to!

Maria Butina isn't the only Russian operative infiltrated within our political system. According to Bill Browder (whose lawyer was murdered by Putin in Russia and whose murder inspired the creation of the Magnitsky Act sanctions), there are at least 50 Russian operatives just like Butina that have infiltrated deep into our government.

Putin wants to eliminate Bill Browder and since he's a U.S. businessman that does a lot of business in Europe and in Russia, he's on Putin's hit list and is vulnerable to assassination attempts.

No, she's just on to the next phase of her mission.

Her job was to penetrate the NRA, because the Russians can see how much influence and money they pump into the GOP.

Butina is part of the campaign to corrupt American institutions, and using an agent to set up a conduit to pump Russians money into GOP political campaigns was the objective.

So is getting caught. Because now she can make a plea deal, and create scandal after scandal as one right wing or GOP politician after another has to deny taking money from the Russians, or have to admit to unknowingly accept Russians money because it was laundered through the NRA.

I think that this operation was completely separate, and not directly connected to Trump.

But it was part and parcel of the overall plan to undermine American political institutions.

Butina will rat out the NRA leadership, whose records will embarrass a lot of Republican politicians.

And then the Russians will swap her out from some American target, and Putin will give her a medal and a dacha!

    I don't doubt that for a minute.
I wouldn't put it quite that way.

There is such thing as "useful idiots", And right wing operators and many politicians have learned not to ask questions. The corruption in Republcian money is huge and very blatant.

And they keep trying to come up with new ways to cover it up. Even now, the Trump Adminstration is proposing changes to tax regulation that would allow 501c4's to hide their sources of income from their tax filings.

Thanks to Citizen's United, the GOP got the right to take unlimited secret campaign contributions and not report any of it in their election filings. Now they want to take the next step and hide it completely.

Not since the Guilded Age has a party or political movement moved so stridely to put themselves up for sale.

This has created and very unhealthy environment wherein GOP politicans and the GOP find themselves more and more dependant on a small number of secretive big money donors. Folks like the DeVoses, Shelly Adelson and Robert Mercer.

The last name is especially significant, given the fact that Mercer's favorite is Kelly Ann Conway, whom he installed in the Bush White House. Mercer and his Russian partners controlled Cambridge Analytica, which was the data collection arm of the Russian election influence machine. (and which collected most of its data sets through fraudulent means, and which conveniently went out of business as soon as the TV cameras started rolling.)

And, of course, it has created a huge opening for secret foreign influence peddling in American politics, an opportunity the Russians are not letting go to waste.

As for laws. I think we're going to find that out in the coming months.

And it will be quite a spectacle to watch prominent Republican after prominent Republican stand before the cameras and say that they didn't know that that money they got from the NRA was actually Russian money.

    Get used to it.

    More fake news poop!

These anti-Trump posters won't answer why the Podesta Group and all of the other Obama-Clinton Axis members are exempted by the deep state DOJ and FBI for doing the same exact thing.

At some time the tide will turn - and all of the precedent that is being set today will be used against Obama, Hillary and all of the deep state denizens that fill their ranks.

Let's start with a government shutdown and get that wall built!

    What drivel!

The news isn't fake. But then, like Trump, all Trumpsters just label anything they don't want to hear as "fake news".

This is Trump's most successful inversion. Fake news, as manufactured by Russian troll farm and various far right wing groups were eaten up like catnip by Trump's most fanatic fans. And then, once stories about how widespread this was and how it worked got out, Trump inverted it by taking the phrase as his own.

Of course, the real news doesn't go away,no matter how hard Trumpsters try and wish it away, and how hard they try and make every thread about Obama or Clinton.

And it looks like the Trumpsters are all lining up to go down with the ship. At least there seem to be enough of them who are dumb enough to believe that people are going to rally behind Trump during a government shutdown in order to get a wall that only a dwindling minority of Americans support.

The two emboldened statements are not only senselessly contradictory, they're both wrong- https://www.loc.gov/law/help/firearms-control/russia.php

The evidence for this conspiracy theory is highly lacking.

Well, it is starting to accumulate. And Ms. Butina may hand the FBI a convenient roadmap.

Theres actually lots of examples of fake or misleading news. Theres a reason that trust in the media is at all time lows.

    Yes there are.

Russian troll farms churned out fake news websites almost daily in the Fall of 2016, and every Trump supporter on this forum not only fell for it, but parroted quite a few of them here (the parroting effect on social media was what drove the campaign, not any ad buys).. There were quite a few right wing groups in the US doing similar things.

Fake stories abound on the right wing blogosphere too.

Has there been an indictment yet? If so could you post a link to that information. if not you are just spewing the same garbage that Mother Jones always does.

So some Russian spy was a member of the NRA. That doesn't mean the NRA is now in the espionage business.
There is a former NBA player on the Board of the NRA. I don't think that mean the NRA is now competing in profession basketball.

There isn't any desperation, except in the offices of the NRA, which has suddenly discovered the value of keeping an uncharacteristically low profile lately.

And, of course, in the Trump White House, where it hangs in the air.
