When it pertains to the united states justice system, one who is innocent of the charges being leveled against them will still accept a plea deal and plead guilty to one charge, simply because the prosecutors make it clear that if the matter goes to trial the imposed sentence upon conviction will be significantly worse. One has an incentive to plead guilty to a lower crime that carries a five year suspended sentence, as opposed to being sentenced to twenty five years behind bars.
