    Relevant as in relevant to Kuwait. Therefore invasion was illegal no matter how many times you keep stating false "facts". I notice you have changed the wording - the actual words were "and all relevant resolutions subsequent to resolution 660" not " relevant and subsequent resolutions" which has a different meaning which is dishonest if intended.

    The entire series of resolutions pertains to Kuwait in that they all work in conjunction with each other to ensure Iraq leaves Kuwait and complies with the ceasefire agreement without which there can be no peace and security in the region. For example, unlike what you and other mistaken posters feel, the key phrase in 678 does not only pertain to 660 but an entire series of resolutions each with criteria for Iraq to meet and, it states they are in force saying …
    “Recalling, and reaffirming its resolutions 660 (1990) of 2 August (1990), 661 (1990) of 6 August 1990, 662 (1990) of 9 August 1990, 664 (1990) of 18 August 1990, 665 (1990) of 25 August 1990, 666 (1990) of 13 September 1990, 667 (1990) of 16 September 1990, 669 (1990) of 24 September 1990, 670 (1990) of 25 September 1990, 674 (1990) of of 29 October 1990 and 677 (1990) of 28 November 1990.”

    661 states that Iraq has to stop saying they own Kuwait, 664 states they must return all foreign nationals, 665 begins sanctions, 666 details portions of the sanctions for humanitarian aid, 667 calls for Iraq to once again return foreign nationals and stop haranguing diplomatic staff so, one can see they all work together.

    Furthermore, as we know, 678 states

    “2. Authorizes Member States co-operating with the Government of Kuwait, unless Iraq on or before 15 January 1991 fully implements, as set forth in paragraph 1 above, the above-mentioned resolutions, to use all necessary means to uphold and implement resolution 660 (1990) and all subsequent relevant resolutions and to restore international peace and security in the area;”

    In order for international peace and security to take place in the area, recognized borders and a peace treaty have to be in place so, simply moving out of Kuwait is not going to do it, a diplomatic effort along with ceasefires and a peace treaty have to take place which is part of the ongoing series of resolutions hence, 678 applies to all subsequent resolutions having to do with Iraq, Kuwait, sanctions, recognition of borders, return of foreign nationals and the entire ceasefire agreement process not simply as you and others feel - a move out of Kuwait and the issue is put to bed hence, subsequent and relevant (sorry) "resolution 660 (1990) and all subsequent relevant resolutions" need to be adhered to .

    687 reaffirms the authority granted to the member states to take action in paragraph 1 where it states;

    “Recalling its resolutions 660 (1990) of 2 August 1990, 661 (1990) of 6 August 1990, 662 (1990) of 9 August 1990, 664 (1990) of 18 August 1990, 665 (1990) of 25 August 1990, 666 (1990) of 13 September 1990, 667 (1990) of 16 September 1990, 669 (1990) of 24 September 1990, 670 (1990) of 25 September 1990, 674 (1990) of 29 October 1990, 677 (1990) of 28 November 1990, 678 (1990) of 29 November 1990 and 686 (1991) of 2 March 1991,”

    And then in the operative portion says;
    “1. Affirms all thirteen resolutions noted above, except as expressly changed below to achieve the goals of this resolution, including a formal cease-fire;”

    You will note, the authority given to member states to take whatever action they deem necessary to have Iraq comply with these and subsequent resolutions is not changed but actually reaffirmed to be still in force. It then goes onto list the ceasefire conditions and begins to lay out the WMD portion with subsequent resolutions laying out the inspection process. Nowhere is the authority given to member states rescinded in fact, in 1441 it is once again affirmed to be in place as stated in the preamble.

    But of course, you can show us all where it is clearly stated that the authority granted to the member states is taken away from them. Which resolution is this contained in and please quote is for us all to see?

    No, I did not change the wording in my explanation as it was my explanation, if I had intended for it to be a quote and was going to quote it verbatim it would have been in quotation marks and would have simply been a cut and paste and yes, what I wrote was intentional and no, it doesn’t change anything and is not dishonest.

    Now please, show us all where it states that the authority granted to ;

    "Member States co-operating with the Government of Kuwait, unless Iraq on or before 15 January 1991 fully implements, as set forth in paragraph 1 above, the above-mentioned resolutions, to use all necessary means to uphold and implement resolution 660 (1990) and all subsequent relevant resolutions and to restore international peace and security in the area;"

    has been taken away. I don't see it as they keep reaffirming this authority so there must be a hidden clause somewhere that you are working on.

    You have ignored the fact that the important words and phrases in resolution 678 are bolded below:

    "that its resolution 678 (1990) authorized Member States to use all
    necessary means to uphold and implement its resolution 660 (1990) of 2 August
    1990 and all relevant resolutions subsequent to resolution 660 (1990) and to restore
    international peace and security in the area"

    Relevant' as in relevant to Kuwait, and "in the area" as in the area of Kuwait/Iraq border. All requirements of 678 and all requirements of relevant subsequent resolutions (to Kuwait) were complied with. No other resolution, relevant or otherwise, includes the phrase "all necessary means".

    Now if you are saying that the resolution requirements are ambiguous we are finally getting somewhere. That calls for the all important "second resolution"..............

    Peace can't be restored until there is a peace treaty which starts with cessation of hostilities, and a ceasefire
    Who's terms are spelled out as I explained above.

    Nice try though however, a self test would be to try and find where this authority is taken away as ALL the resolutions detailed above are relevant to the original invasion of Kuwait. If you can't achieve that then it is your opinion vs the UNSC.
