I have pondered this several times. For an Italian speaker "Nut" is a name. So that the Goddess of the sky in Ancient Egypt, Nut, was a powerful deity [one of the most powerful ever]. But ... what about English speaking persons? A part that the pronounce is different, when you see the name of the Goddess of the sky you could think to a divine nutcase! Probably you don't consider "Nut" a so impressive and suitable name for a deity ...
Either way i have not heard of an Italian name nut nor an Egyptian name nut. 'her' name in original Egyptian was: (nw) that identifies her. Name in hieroglyphs http://friesian.com/egypt.htm
Ok, even if those hieroglyphs should be read "nwt" [meaning "sky"]. But I'm making reference to the common name attributed to the deity, how we call her today ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nut_(goddess)
