I think the simple explanation is that they listened to their own media and in the MSM hall of mirrors and parrots, they THOUGHT everyone agreed with them. Remember, Hillary was a shoo-in and Trump could NEVER win! Then their snowflakes cried 'Oh how could this happen?'.......I have liberal friends who constantly assume everyone agrees with them...It's actually kind of creepy. I have to be very careful to avoid political topics when I am with them. However, they have less of a problem bringing up their liberal POV. I have always found that interesting about liberals.
