    "Mayor Bill de Blasio called the achievement 'extraordinary' on Monday while speaking at a graduation ceremony for newly sworn NYPD officers.

    " 'A city of 8.6 million people -- not a single shooting for three days,' he said. 'Let's thank the NYPD for what they've achieved.' "

    Let's review NYC's gun laws:
    * a permit to purchase both handguns and long guns
    * gun registration
    * a license to own a gun
    * it's hard to qualify for a carry permit if you're not retired LE or a security guard
    * a ten round magazine limit for handguns
    * a five round magazine limit for long guns
    * NFA weapons are banned
    * one handgun purchase per 90 day period
    * one long gun purchase per 90 day period

    Did I miss anything?

    Attica prison didn't either.

    Why do they have shootings in all of the other weekends? Why does California have shootings?

    Are you implying that criminals no longer have guns in NYC and this will be the norm going forward? It's only been 108 years since the Sullivan Act. Good job!

    Which of the laws were in place during the late 80s and early 90s?

    Nyc and California have better systems.....not perfect ones. Which is why they have such low gun deaths

    Yeah, this:

    "Mayor Bill de Blasio called the achievement "extraordinary" on Monday while speaking at a graduation ceremony for newly sworn NYPD officers.

    Pollock attributed the decline in part to cooperation with federal authorities in prosecuting domestic violence offenders for weapons possession.
    De Blasio, speaking at the graduation, cited training and a focus on "neighborhood policing" as reasons for the success."

    What part did NYPD have in passing those laws you listed?

    So the takeaway to be had from this thread is that a single weekend without a single shooting in the city of New York is a remarkable, noteworthy accomplishment. Meaning that it is the norm for at least one individual to be shot every single day in the city of New York.

    Something tells me they did have a few shootings, just none that were reported. Unless this weekend is when everyone got high and didn't go outside at all, it is very unlikely that no one killed themselves, no criminal held up a store with gun, no drive-bys at all happened in any of the ghettos.

    That don't look well. It's really kind of woeful. It's like me having a joy that my fiancé did not get raped when going to the grocery store to buy some toothpaste and deodorant.

    That statement is so out-of-tune that it just boggles my mind so deeply. Celebrating when someone did not get shot — is the definition of a bewildered society.

    Depending on which news source is relied on, this is the first weekend of its kind to occur in a matter of decades.

    Out of a city of over 8 million in a country with more guns than anyone this is a amazing achievement. Gun control works

    Which is interesting in that the only law mentioned in attribution is enforcement of the Lautenberg Amendment, which has been in place for over two decades. Strange that the OP only lists local laws which have also been in place for years. I do note that he was careful not to actually claim cause and effect, which is his MO. I remember how he tried to imply a link between Heller and higher rates of crime even though the only locale actually affected by Heller was Washington DC, which has seen its homicide rate decline by 50% since Heller. The OP can be a hoot sometimes.

    Are you aware what is the population of Moscow? You'll feel very mute when you understand what I'm hunting.

    In a matter of fact — YES.

    A Bulgarian sweet girl was stabbed to death 46 times a few months ago by a Syrian "migrant" behind a gas station in Lyulin, Sofia, Bulgaria. She went to buy a pack of cigarettes.

    Sure London is great if you don't mind the violent crime doubling in four years.

    I love facts. LOL
    Some newspapers reported murders in London exceeded those in New York (a city with the same population) for the first time in February 2018.[2] However a number of commentators have suggested that such a comparison of a snapshot of one month in isolation gives undue weight to that particular month. Later figures suggest that New York recorded 57 murders during January through March 2018 whereas London recorded 45.[3] More recent data shows that, between January and June 2018, New York's 141 homicides was nearly twice that of London's 80 homicides.[4][5] Further, using annual statistics for 2017, New York has a significantly higher homicide rate than London, with New York recording 3.4 homicides per 100,000 people whereas London recorded 1.2.[6] In addition, the murder rate in 2017 is still well below the peak in 2003.[7] New York is also one of the "safest" big cities in the U.S.,[8] which makes London's figures look even lower when compared to the average American city.

    Yes, like the fact that there are cities with lax gun laws that actually goes for weeks without a shooting. The fact that New York having ONE weekend without a shooting is newsworthy shows just how rare that "achievement" actually is.
