NYT: 2,000 ventilators in federal stockpile don't work because of a maintenance lapse

More than 2,000 ventilators, a key piece of equipment to treat coronavirus patients, in the federal stockpile are unavailable to be deployed because the Trump administration failed to maintain the devices as they were in storage, according to The New York Times.

When its contract with Vyaire Medical to maintain some of the stockpile ventilators expired at the end of August, the government awarded a broader contract to Agiliti, according to the Times.
That led Vyaire Medical to protest the decision and the contract dispute was not resolved until January, the Times reported.
During that roughly five-month period, maintenance on the machines halted, according to the newspaper.

So, Trump's Administration failed to maintain the ventilators in proper working condition.

A lapse in maintenance that will certainly cost American Lives.

The American People have gotten used to the Trump Administration's Shoddy Behavior.
But (in this case) it is going to lead to Deaths (that could have been prevented if the Ventilators have been maintained).

Agiliti began maintaining the ventilators in late January, when it started becoming clear that coronavirus was a global threat, according to the newspaper. Leonard told the Times that Agiliti was not responsible for the faults in the ventilators.
"Between the time of the original and the time of this contract award, I don't know who was responsible or if anybody was responsible for those devices. But it was not us," he told the paper.

Proof positive that the Trump Administration dropped the ball on this.

I would look to the socialist who drove medical device manufacturing and maintenance out of the country 10 years ago with an excise tax, not the administration that tried to bring back this essential business at the end of last year.

Socialists who hate freedom so much that they tax companies that produce much needed equipment, forcing companies and jobs to leave, have nothing to do with free markets and liberty. One reason socialism fails everywhere it's tried is that companies will not sit around waiting to be taxed into the stone age and they won't invest capital where socialists will confiscate it.
