If that's the case, then why did Dubya have horrendous approval ratings when he left office? That's my problem with averages. Bush for instance got a boost after 9-11, when the country was in shock and anger, and was looking to the president as a leader. The problem is, after Bush's presidency ended, most Americans, including many Republicans, thought he was terrible, hence his historically low approval ratings at the end of his tenure.

That said, I don't think Obama was a great president, but rather an average one who was an improvement over his predecessor Bush. In my opinion, I believe the rise of Donald Trump has made more people appreciate Obama more. I noticed that Obama's approval ratings started to increase the moment Trump announced he was running for the presidency, and continued to increase as Trump continued to embarrass himself and the nation with his stupidity. I believe that Trump being Obama's successor is going to make him look better in the long run. Not because Obama was a great president, but because Trump is just that bloody awful.

The recession caused Bush's final approval ratings, that and along with nation building. It's like Korea caused Truman's to be down to 35%. I put more stock in the overall average, over 8 years or the time they been president than just at the end. That is ignoring seven plus years for Obama and Bush or any other president for that matter.

Fair enough, we'll agree to disagree then.
