Why do certain immigrants refuse to assimilate and refuse to speak English and demand that we communicate to them in their language ? To be naturalized as an American citizen you are suppose to be able to read English and carry on a conversation in English. Why do some naturalized American citizens demand that voting ballots be printed in their native language ?
WTF for? English IS the universal language. They are coming here, we are not going THERE. That's a huge difference. I subscribe to : Press 1 for English. Press 2 to disconnect.
Oh you poor dear. How do you make it through the day? You could probably go on permanent disability for all the trauma to your finger pushing a button and all. And I notice that the discussion has gone from acquiring English to having the temerity to have an accent while SPEAKING ENGLISH. That's just stupid.
DUH!!If you want to communicate with the majority of people you encounter in your daily life, OF COURSE it is beneficial if you can communicate with them, that's called COMMON SENSE!!!Start boning up on your Spanish because Spanish speakers will be the majority in the USA in another 20 years.
Out of everything I typed you keyed in the ****ING JOKE of having to dial 1?? hehe. But nah, its not accents. Its extreme lack of grasp of English. I was picking up my kids from aftercare and a parent walked in and started speaking Spanish to the Admin behind the desk. Didn't even attempt English. When her kid came through, it was Spanish they were speaking, probably because the parents are illegal and the kid is an anchor baby. And the music coming from the junker car she was driving, hoopty Spanish rap. Shocking. Do you live in South FL? No? There are cities where you can stop at a gas station and the person can't speak English. There are car dealerships where you have to wait for someone who can actually speak English. Forget about the people cutting your lawn=) I work with educated Hispanics who value being American. Them there's less executive level younger associates who break into Spanish while in a conversation as a group and its fricking rude. What are you saying where you feel the need to break into another language among yourselves that others in the group aren't necessarily privy to? But I guess its my problem not assimilating to THEM=) What's stupid is making excuses or expecting everyone else to cater to the lowest common denominator. It'll be our downfall, that's for sure. Latin countries are all **** holes for a reason. Then more of them who live here, the more we become like them, until we ARE them and we're a **** hole too. Congrats. Diversity for diversities sake is for those too stupid to see the future. I'll be old by the time it truly sucks, but my kids and grand kids will have to endure our future decline into mediocrity or worse...a banana republic. If you have no money, no skills and cant speak English, you shouldn't be allowed to enter the country. There are no mass wars where asylum is necessary. There is an entire continent to our south with PLENTY of room where they share similar cultures. But I guess the best country where they give out free **** is the best place to slither in to=)
From an intellectual point, it is to our own benefit to be educated in a foreign language, and there are no drawbacks. Research on human brain development show that kids who are taught a foreign language perform better in core subjects. The reason for this being individuals who understand the structure of a foreign language tend to have improved reading comprehension skills. Studies have also shown that individuals who know multiple languages also have a tendency to earn higher incomes https://www.economist.com/prospero/2014/03/11/johnson-what-is-a-foreign-language-worth https://www.actfl.org/advocacy/what-the-research-shows Contrary to what many on these forums believe, being more educated is not a bad thing.
