90% of those had health insurance before Obamacare so I don't know where they get the idea that they are covered now as a direct result of Obamacare.

Yes but single payer plan is socialism and therefore the ACA is acceptable to the right wing. They may however try to fob you off with bs such as tort reform or even to deny there was a prob in the first place.

Lets now watch these RW squirm as they try to justify there position while condemning the ACA.

And then there is the real world where the ACA was 100% opposed by the republicans.

Yeah, I debunked this as well in an earlier thread. It's more like the people who weren't connected whatsoever to a HC plan that were "saved".

Or in other words, a mere fraction of this 10 million number. To be specific, cut out the children who are on their "parents" plan. They aren't "covered" per say(or not that they weren't covered to begin with). Same with those with private insurance(most of whom were already covered).

It's 2-5 million who didn't have insurance. Give or take. The Libbies can take 5 million if they want. I'll be fair to accuracy and say it's more like 3.5 million.

Which is a far cry from "10 million" and a far cry from what they wanted to achieve lol.

Of course. It's a change that America NEEDED.

Single Payer and/or a Public Option would have been much better... but this is what we have for now, and people are beginning to realize that it is a better system (than the last one) overall.

The Right is losing the American people, day-by-day. (And they're doing it to themselves.)

The Right needs to do a better job of really helping people.

    That isn't hard to see.

Yes but youd rather have that than single payer.

Those with expensive existing conditions and the middle-aged are signing up. The young are not. The costs to the taxpayers will escalate.

I'm not 100% sure... but since 95+% of other westernized societies are WAY ahead of us... we can and should adapt more of what they are doing.

We need to stop letting our politics get so much in the way of what is most practical for the American people.

We cannot survive on 'politics' alone.

Your objections to politics seem meaningless to me, if they turned around and agreed with all the left said would they then have taken the politics out of it?

    Everything cannot be about 'money'.

I came up with three ways to encourage signing up or to nudge states to expand Medicaid.

    1. A Federa Law.l If one could have insurance and opted out the medical debts make non-dischargeable in bankruptcy, under ACA hardship guidelines and rules. The person has ACA insurance of any kind you can.

    2. A Federal Law anyone whose income is at or under ACA Medicaid guidelines cannot be charged for hospital services, this includes all related bills.

    3. Statutory Change. For indigent under 75% of the Poverty line will be enroll processed in Medicaid and the state billed pending approval as if they were on Medicaid and must pay the costs billed. Using the ACA EXCHANGE income verification for income reported to the state. Regardless if the state rejects the person later.

    That should work.

The ACA is largely about money! We were told we'd save money with this. Of course, those of us who read the fine print knew we were being scammed. This isn't a "better system". A system that has to coerce people to do something, is never a better system. The best system is one based off free market capitalism which allows for competition, growth and ultimately lower prices for everyone.

This is a closed market, with no variations and no alternatives. Furthermore, no choices. Yes, everyone will be "covered". But no one is going to be happy. This "law of the land" isn't going to last for long. It spits in the face of what America means. We're not the Taliban, so why should we copy their practices in the field of insurance?

That ACA is a very 'political' and 'capitalist' solution; it is better than what we had; that's clear enough.

What we NEED now, is Universal Healthcare.

    Healthcare-for-profit will largely always SUCK.

Where would they make the cuts to save that money? Surely it won't cover everything and will have price co trils and the resulting shortages just like every other single payer one size fits all system.

Yeah, it produces those crummy things like life saving medications and procedures. It encourages our best and brightest to become doctors and surgeons. Yeah, really sucks.

I'm sure we will be getting the best and brightest to enter the not-for-profit healthcare industry. If you are the smartest guy in the room, will you study and train for a dozen years after college so you can be told by the federal gov't how much money you will make?

For too long, we let the negatives of a commercial medical system outweigh the actual benefits. That is reality.

I don't have any perfect solutions nor does anyone else.

All we can do is seek to improve things; and that does not mean sitting on the status quo (as if it is some golden egg).

We should seek to improve things, to include creating a universal medical system better than ACA.

    Medical Care for All

In my opinion the best way to extend our fine medical care system to those who have no coverage other than emergency room services is to automatically issue medicaid cards to everyone without current insurance.

Depending on the profitability of their employer, the employer should be billed for medicaid. If the individual earns enough to pay for his own, or part of his own coverage his employer should withhold the premiums from the individuals pay check.

For those without jobs medicaid should be extended without premium until the individual becomes employed or can otherwise afford to pay the premiums.

Those who have refused company provided health care to get more cash in their checks should automatically be enrolled in medicaid and the cash they are now receiving withheld and used to pay medicaid premiums. Likely they will jump at the chance to take company provided health care in lieu of medicaid.

County health units should be expanded to care within their capability all persons on medicaid, by creating outpatient clinics in conjunction with any Hill-Burton hospital in the area.

In my opinion the costs of this will be less than the ACA, and most important, will not depreciate the care those with care now receive.

Do you think the best and brightest Americans will strive to becomes doctors and surgeons if the federal gov't is determining how much money they make?

To be a great physician, massive wealth or focus upon the same is not required.

Money/profit is a good motivator for some, but not all. (That's not to say that we couldn't LOWER the pay of politicians and raise that of physicians and other medical professionals.)
