Well... the OT was written to preserve Jewish identity and it was mostly written after the Babylonian exile... rituals and laws to keep them separate from others. I take issue because Jewish people managed to keep their identity in countries all over the world for some 2300 years of diaspora. Here is the thing....say you have a group of people 1000 total interbreeding then at a point where 30,000 exist they split down the middle approx. 15,000 in two groups because one side believes a Lizard is GOD and another group believes a Rock Wall is GOD.

Then the 15,000 group of Wall GOD believers splits down the middle and 50% now believe only BRICK WALLS are GOD and the other believes STONE WALLS are GOD.....
