Connor Fitzgerald, 19, spent almost three months in prison and lost his job after a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her.

But the charges were thrown out by the prosecutor after Connor's brother did some detective work of his own and discovered text messages that painted a very different picture of the events.

Connor says he doesn't know what would have ended up happening to him if it wasn't for his brother.

The two had been in a sexual relationship and after it turned sour the girl sent a message to one of her friends saying: “I’m not just going to mess his life up, I’m going to ruin it lol.”

She also sent a text to Connor saying: “If I can't have you, no one can”.

Saved screenshots from his phone show the woman claiming to have enjoyed sex with him.

But after accusing him of attacking her, she sent chilling taunts including: "Well I'll see you in court".

One of the big issues is that women are rarely ever punished for false rape accusations. No one wants to risk punishing a woman who might have been raped and came forward telling the truth. Usually when evidence comes forward that the woman may have been lying they just drop the charges against the man.
Even in the exceptionally rare cases women do end up getting punished for false accusations it's usually no more than four years—that's only a fraction of the time the man would have served if her story had been believed.

The Law of Moses said that a false accuser should be punished with whatever punishment they would have caused on their victim. (Deuteronomy 19:18-19 )
