Once a 'church' becomes a 'mega church' and the pastor becomes a millionaire/billionaire celebrity, all 'faith' goes out the window.

yep, when it becomes about profits, the church hides wrong doings, as we have seen with the church sex abuse scandals

That does seem to happen quite frequently.

Sometimes it doesn't even take that much. I know several church "leaders" just as bad and they don't have millions. Fortunately, I know of one serving time in prison for his misdeeds.

They are not mighty, they are hucksters preying on those who wish for spiritual guidance.

⁜→ Pants, MJ Davies, et al,

    Just one man's opinion!
BLUF: Faith, in terms of the base upon which a relationship between a Mortal Being and the Supreme Being is formed. This faith is not dependent upon any other external factor. Faith is a strong and unyielding conviction that is held by the Mortal Being.

    (COMMENT)

If the faith was shaken by the actions of a teacher or persuasion of a convincing externality (other than a spiritual epiphany) then it was not really faith in the Supreme Being at all. It was faith in the teacher - a mortal upon which the trust and confidence were placed.

Yup. IMO satan has taken over much of the religious establishment, not just Christianity. Its why church attendence has been steadily declining in the US for decades as spiritual individuals leave to take up more private, less orthodox study and worship.

I'm missing your point. Admittedly, it's been a long day. What does faith have to do with hypocritical church leaders?

I don't think it's 'faith' that is shaken. Rather, it is faith in those individuals. If someone chooses to give up their faith because of the actions of these mortal leaders then I would suggest their faith in God was not solid in the first place.

The clergy, like everyone else, are human.

I thought they were endowed with supernatural righteousness, wisdom, physical health, healing powers, supernatural probity and discernment and supernatural uncommon sense.

Pssst, that's nothing, one of Jesus' hand picked disciples was a traitor. Whether Falwell's faith is genuine is between him and God, I wouldn't want to be in his shoes on Judgement Day. Jesus predicted there would be wolves in sheep's clothing in the church.

Christianity isn't a status of perfection, it is sinners like you and me accepting Christ's free offer of salvation through faith in His atoning death on the cross. As Luther said, we are simul justus et peccator, or declared righteous yet at the same time sinners.
