This is the sad story of Army vet Richard Rose III...

    upload_2020-7-17_10-5-26.jpeg

... who refused to wear a mask and has died of COVID-19.

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/07/17/covid-19-ohio-veteran-37-refused-wear-mask-died/5457283002/

An Ohio man who died due to complications from COVID-19 has drawn criticism for his staunch refusal to wear a mask earlier in the pandemic.

Richard Rose III, an Army veteran who spent nine years in the United States Army according to his obituary, died on July 4. He was 37.

Rose’s death gained notoriety on social media after expressing that he was “not buying a (expletive) mask” less than three months before his death.

“I’ve made it this far by not buying into that damn hype,” he said in a post published April 28.

The post has since garnered more than 800 comments and 19,000 shares, with many using the post to ridicule Rose for his stance on masks. Others defended Rose.

I agree with his friend who said:

“Rick is getting slaughtered online right now for his decision that he made not to wear a mask and that’s not right,” Conley said. “We should still be compassionate whether we agree with someone’s beliefs or not. Someone has passed away and we should have some compassion towards that.”

RIP, Richard. I'm sorry you didn't get to live at least another 37 years.

I wonder why you don't see conservatives on this board showing covid deaths of protestors daily?

Hate this young vet died of it. But he is at least partly at fault. Along with the people that cheered him on. e

    He chose... poorly.

    Did he have other conditions?

    Was he ventilated?

    Was he zinc deficient?

Was he also engaged in commiting suicide just before he 'died from Cvirus'?

If none of these, then he was an unfortunate fluke.

hmm, what seems to be missing from the article? How about the underlying, pre-existing health issues.

Are there news stories about it? Even on Fox or right-wing fake news?

The protestors tend to be outdoors and wearing masks, so they probably don't catch it so often.

Plenty of young people die or get wiped out by it without significant underlying issues. It's a dice-roll, really.

the local hospital here which handles about 95% of the covid cases in a county with 430,000 people disagrees with you. Their FACTS do not in any way, shape or form support your false assertion. But, if you consider folks over the age of 70 to be "young", then ok. Over the age of 70 is still the avg age of death post memorial day

Please put aside the politics and focus on facts. I understand that orange man is bad and the Democrat play sheet is to blame him for a virus.

31 years old. He thought he didn't need a mask because he was young and healthy

    He was wrong

You need a mask yes. You need to NOT being around other people not wearing masks or HIS fate could be yours...regardless of your age

The big problem here is that this guy was infected at some point and was still walking around possibly infecting others when
he could have reduced that spread with a mask. So not did he only perhaps kill himself, he may have killed others.
But he had to make a political statement, rather than just making a common curtesy statement. It's like sneezing in a crowd and not covering your mouth. It's just ****ing rude.

I had to look it up but moronic behavior is not considered a pre-condition. Covid-19 is however by insurance companies.

You may be onto something here. How about we all pull down our masks to cough and sneeze when around an anti-masker?
    "AAAAHHCHOOOO! Excuse me."
"How rude. Didn't you learn to cover your mouth when you sneeze?"
"Well sure, duh. But since you're not wearing a mask I didn't want to offend you."

sad that this will be what people most remember about him.... he made a mistake at the end, but sounds like he lived a good life

he got caught up with politics and it cost him his life

maybe his death will save others as they learn from his mistakes

good people can do bad things... often people that have done bad things early in life do many good things to make up for it later in life - works both ways

sometimes bad people do good things to cover up for the bad things they do too, so all types out there

I think the Trump admin is partly to blame for his followers actions, they drank the Kool-Aid

Just remember every time you go out with a mask, you are putting others at risk. Less than if not wearing a mask, but much more than if you stayed home where you belong.

If we apply your theory logically, you are an *******. Just a little less of one than this dude.

The moronic, extremist faction that tried to make taking an easy, medically-recommended, socially-responsible precaution into a fanatical, ideological taboo is finally surrendering to reason.
In the absence of competent, responsible national leadership, the American people need to resort to common sense and look out for one another.

    Oh! We are!

A lot of young people have survived but with long term debilitating symptoms

You also have to factor in comorbidities

What, you're cherrypicking a local anecdote and extrapolating it to everybody everywhere?

Yeah, but he may have a wife and kids, or maybe his Dad lives with him. Wish it were that simple.

The point being that the anti mask people will catch on that it's always been rude to sneeze without covering your mouth because no one likes getting spit on and now that has been expanded upon and it's rude not to wear a mask around strangers for the same reason.

I get the point and agree 100% But you can't afford to spit or cough on someone to make that point, because your 'point' may have a life of its own, outside your control.
