I am agreeing with your stats. far more people are murdered in California than in Oklahoma but the greater population in Cali means it gets a lower rating.

Yes, they say precisely in California 5.8 Times as many people are murdered than in Oklahoma. That is exactly what those stats say. I just used basic arithmetic and state populations to point out a lower murder rate in California can also mean greater numbers of murder victims in California.

Those red states are punching above their weight.

 

Thats over twice as many than are killed in Lousiana. That particular red state has les than half as many funerals for murder victims than Cali.

seems Cali's laws get more people killed.

 

That still means Louisiana is punching above their weight by a hell of a lot.

Yeah having more people means CA can murder over double the people while keeping that rate lower. in CA if you are murdered your life counts for less because you have more naighbors.

You say this, but it aint so. Punching above your weight is about how many per 100.000 or % if you will.
And red wing states with weak gun laws are at the bottom of the list.

You can continue believing that a town of 1000 people having 50 murders per year is safer than a city of 100,000 people having 51 murders per year if you want.

 

51 is more than 50. the other people not murdering are not really relevant outside of pretending that life is worth less based on the population of the state.
