Omicron spreads mostly among vaccinated

In Denmark more than 90% of omicron cases are among vaccinated. Their vaccination rate is lower than that.
Other countries seem to report similar ratios.
As if things couldn’t get any weirder these days, we might be looking at a pandemic among the vaccinated.



It looks like this planet took a wrong turn somewhere.

 

If Omicron is indeed a weakened virus, that is the best possible outcome for the world and planet. As we've wanted this thing to get to the point where it doesn't cause deaths or hospitalizations, and the weaker it becomes the less it will cause death and hospitalizations.

I just find it odd that it starts to look like omicron infects vaccinated more than the others.

 

It doesn't. Most of the original infections were of those who travelled from abroad. Only those fully vaccinated could travel hence it is no surprise that vaccinated people are mostly those with Omicron variant. Meanwhile, in the UK, one person had died from Omicron, as of few days ago, and he was unvaccinated

And then we have the original identified cases starting in South where very few are vaccinated

But I still think that we should encourage this variant as even those few who are hospitalised stay for a couple of days or so as compared to ten days stay for those with the Delta variant

If there is a reasonable explanation - sure. It just seemed odd to me at first.
The real good news is that it looks like omicron is as dangerous as common cold, so even if it does end up infecting vaccinated more than not vaccinated, very few will be seriously hurt by it.

 

More importantly how many of the vaccinated have ended up in hospital?

 

It looks very light.
IMHO, we should all get it, regardless of the vaccination status. This mild version will act as a vaccine made by the Mother Nature and the subsequent mutations will result in even milder disease.

 

I was thinking along the lines of the fact that the vaccinated, being more socially responsible were more likely to be tested but your explanation makes a LOT more sense

No it just indicates that the strain is resistant to the current vaccines. Perhaps 90% of the people are vaccinated. That would produce results exactly like this. Omicron is a natural and expected strain. The strains arrive from successful mutations. Omicron is successful because it is very contagious allowing good spread for the virus and produces weaker symptoms so that it doesn't kill its host. Dead hosts can't spread a pulmonary virus. It isn't a stretch to conclude that this is all good news because it allows a manageable endemic existence for the virus. I welcome omicron. It is natural selection working as it should.

 

Socially responsible? Doesn't sound like anything a virus cares about. Of course, viruses don't care about anything. They just mutate.

 

Of course it doesn’t which is why it was foolish to think that it was “targeting” the vaccinated. IF you had READ my post the point I was making was that the vaccinated, having already shown a propensity for social responsibility than the unvaccinated are far more likely to get tested in the first place so the data may well be skewed

Wow. There are still people who don't know the vaccine minimizes the risk of getting sick from it, not from getting infected. It does not prevent viruses from falling in your skin.

If vast majority of the population are vaccinated, then common sense mandates that most infections are among the vaccinated. If they dont get sick from it, then its irrelevant to them.

 

And you used the same "socially responsible" term again. If you had read my post you would know that criticism of that term is what the post was all about.

In Denmark the vaccination rate is around 70%, I believe. The article says 90% with vaccines caught omicron. But it very well could be that vaccinated could be more likely to travel, at least I agree to accept that as a plausible explanation.

 

The rate is over 80%, but the point stands that the vaccine is designed to keep you from getting sick. It is not designed to keep viruses from landing on you.
