Oh my God, once again a Republican caves. Why is it that Dems always vote together and Republicans fail to vote with the majority of their party? I would support this if it wasn't that the democrats fail to vote individually, but they dont. The worst thing is they had a chance to finally get a moderate, conservative leaning court, and blew it. Thus is why I hate both parties and wish we could just vote on those running for office based on their platform. Republicans caved and duped again.
I hate to give comfort to the enemy, but the Kav nomination isn't lost unless you assume something will be found to incriminate him. The idea behind doing this, from the few moderate republicans, is to show that they treated the allegation seriously so that a cloud does not hang over the senate and scotus if this guy is confirmed. A week-long delay seems worth that.
You don't think the Democrats are going to settle with that do you? They want an opened ended investigation and probably to investigate every single allegation that comes out of the woodwork. The GOP has caved several times now, let's see if this is their last compromise.
It's not really the choice of the democrats - they're just going to vote no and it won't come to a vote until McTurtle thinks he has the votes. It's basically up to Flake, Collins, Murkowski, and Manchin. Flake might have initiated this, but his voice alone wouldn't have been enough (50-50 with Pence tiebreaker). The other undecided senators agreed. And I'm not sure if they're really undecided, it could be just that they think it would look better if the investigation looked more legit. But this should be investigated until the FBI says they have no more credible leads. Since they did the Hill investigation in a couple days, maybe they can do it in a week if they take it seriously.

Democrats won't be satisfied unless they can kill the nomination but reasonable people with reasonable doubts will be so I think it's good PR to do this.
Looked to me the regardless of what occurred when he was a teenager, he failed his job interview in front of the world. He obfuscated, he attacked, he was extremely partisan, he lied and repeatedly demonstrated non-judicial demeanor. In the real world, such a performance in a job interview would result in the candidate being toast, without hesitation.
No nominee for the Supreme Court is a "moderate" if he or she believes--as Kav has stated--that birth control pills are a form of abortion. The U.S. is a moderate nation socially, and such a justice on our Supreme Court would be contrary to the vast majority of Americans on social issues. That would simply cause more stress and consternation that already exists. Not a good idea in the current political environment.
