If obamacare is so wonderful, why did 8 million pay the penalty instead of enrolling? That one fact pretty much indicates how bad it is. Paying a fine and getting NOTHING was the preferred route. Can that many people be wrong????????????

Paying the fine costs less. Unless, of course, you get seriously sick. Then we all end up paying for someone being irresponsible. Which brings us back to the Republican concept of the mandate to get the society as a whole bearing the cost burden.

Because the fine is much smaller than the cost of health insurance and while the vast majority get health insurance some healthy people think they are so invulnerable that they would rather save money by paying the fine and take the risk of getting into big financial trouble when something bad happens to them.

Actually early estimates showed that millions of the previous uninsured that did buy insurance didn't want to but chose insurance over the penalty.

I was listening to Rush the other day and he cited an example of Obamacare. A family that had been paying about $1,000 a month for healthcare was told by their provider that they would be folding up their tent in that state because they were getting to the point of not being able to provide a product that enough people could afford. The only other alternative left was Obamacare, but the best deal they could get was about $40,000 per year in premiums with a near $10,000 deductible. How many normal families can put out $50,000 a year?

And ended up better for doing so. As did we since we didn't have to pay for it when they showed up at ERS

Why are they better off? Most didn't want insurance because they didn't need it, or at best a little used catastrophic policy. Hardly any of this group went to the ER hat in hand. Some went to the ER or their doctor and just paid the bill because it was cheaper than the insurance or the penalty. So why is it you think they were better off with the government telling them what the government insisted they do for their health? Were they all just to stupid to understand?

It's time to let Obamacare die. It failed. The argument is over.

I am pleased it never became an amendment to the constitution. We would have had to squash it like a bug as they did to Prohibition had they managed to elevate it to sainthood.

You can get a hardship exemption to the individual mandate. There are many things that qualify one for the exemption, such as a utility shutoff warning. Trump ordered DHHS to accept all qualified applications as one of his first actions in office.

Because expecting the market to solve **** was an utterly naive move on Obama's part.

Everyone should pay for their own. No subsidies.

I don't get any subsidies. In fact, I'm paying for the damn things.

Why? You can always buy it directly from NJ Blue Cross Blue Shield, can't you? ..... or..... do you want the taxpayers to pay for it?

PS thank Obama for not reining in skyrocketing premiums and deductibles.

Huh? ACA Obamacare policies are just as expensive..... oh, you do want the taxpayer to pay your family's premiums after all.

Like i said, Obama had the mandate to rein in skyrocketing healthcare cost. His failure to even begin doing that is nothing short of spectacular.

All the people I know who payed the fine are Republicans who would just say "I will never sign up for Obamacare!" for no other reason other than the fact that it was called "Obamacare". The fanatical mind of Republicans is astounding... and scary...

There are at least 20 million people, who were able to get insurance and would not have been able to, that would beg to differ. Not counting those who had insurance but had exclusions and higher rates because of pre-existing conditions.

Fact is that, much as Trump has tried to make it fail, it hasn't. It's quite resilient.

It's amazing how Republicans can be so fanatical that they oppose a piece of legislation that benefits them for purely political reasons.
