Unfortunately the parents of black kids probably don't have bribe money like the Hollywood elites.

So we need Lacrosse to bring up the athletics GPA?
    Or am I misunderstanding.
This from Moi who really, really, really hates paraphrasing.

Basketball and Football have become earners beyond any
definition of an academic, university purpose / mission.
And with such compromised academics they confer Bachelors degrees.
    Forrest Gump graduates.
Tell me it ain't so. Pure and Simple.

    1) That leaves 11 hours, not 9.
    2) An adult can get by on 6 or 7 hours sleep a night
    3) Which leaves 4 or so hours free every day to work with your children
    4) Which is EXACTLY what Asian parents do, irregardless of how many hours they work
    5) Which is the ONLY way that kids are going to excel at school
    6) Which is the ONLY way kids can pass entrance exams for selective schools
    7) Don't pretend it's anything other than a choice

PS: That you actually think it's unreasonable to have to do what it takes, is very revealing. Like someone who wants to summit Mt Everest without actually climbing it.

Like those conversations we have with children about what's needed to do or have whatever it is they want. "but I don't want to do the work" .."you can't get X without it" .. "but I want X" .. "well do the work" .. "but I don't want to".

The heck it does. It takes about an hour to get out of bed, get the kids out of bed and off to work/school. Groceries don't just appear out of thin air. You need to buy them, cook, and do dishes. Than there is laundry. Maybe such a parent has 2 hours of spare time a day. That's when the kids are already gone to bed. They need more sleep than a parent. Let's say they got 30 minutes overlap in all of that. You seriously think that this is equal to an other gimp who has 2 hours overlap a day, and that the 30 minutes would work out just as well?

Seems you got no clue how family life works.
Seriously weird I need to explain this.
    Seriously weird. lol

I have four jobs in all. I work seven days a week, between 14 and 18 hours most days. I find time I make time to help my sons with their schoolwork (ok, the baby doesn’t have any yet!) and my wife who is a stay at home mom helps him out much much more. Together we make sure they get their homework done and they get the support that they need. Their grandparents help, their aunts and uncles help, a family effort. It’s not easy but we love our children and we will try our best for them Always.

An adult can get by on 4-5 hours of sleep.

You wouldn't have that time at all without your stay at home mom.

Look, if you don't like the work involved, DON'T DO IT. You can continue finding excuses, or just own that you don't think people should have to work for stuff.

And after raising three kids, on a farm, off grid, while growing our own food AND working long hours .. I have a very clear idea of just what sacrifices parents must make if they're going to take education seriously. I'm also a member of a migrant family of colour, who when first working here in the West, were required to work around 100 hours a week. Those two spare hours spare you mention? Spent at the side of their children .. plus an additional hour of their own sleep time in the mornings.

Once again, this is what it takes. Your distaste for the reality is indicative of your attitude to education. That's not an insult FTR, it's just where you sit in the scheme of things. It's not for everyone. But don't be trying to summit the mountain, while avoiding the climb - on your own behalf, or anyone else's.

OMG .. you're not seriously going to suggest that staying married and being responsible is some kind of magical privilege, are you? Only 'lucky' people can do that? Everyone else is forced to be dysfunctional/divorced etc?

Exactly. And many hard working Asian parents do just that, in order to support their childrens' educational journey.

I am indeed suggesting that children who got such lives who score just below the acceptance score, would have made the score if they had a better situation at home, and that it doesn't mean they too dumb. And I take it, that you wouldn't manage with such a stay at home mother.

Hang on. We got a honest discussion how it is when working 60 hours a week + 3 hours to commute (and lets be honest,.. there are probably people who work more). And now that the hours are punched in, and it shows there is actually no time left for a parent to help their kid... you're just dropping this discussion completely and running away from it. lol

I'm here, engaging fully ... and pummeling your excuses while doing so.

Numbers punched in are irrelevant. If it's important, you'll find the time. If it's not important, you won't. If it takes a parent getting 5 hours sleep a night, then it takes a parent getting 5 hours sleep a night. To get to the summit of Everest, you have to CLIMB it.

    That’s why it’s called a family.
Whether or not there is a big pro league does not diminish the value of a sport or the efforts of an athlete.

A 'better situation at home' is a choice. Not made, obviously.

All your excuses are just that. Excuses.

Of course. Mentioned Asian parents because the school in question has a majority Asian students.
