OK, so other than a matter of semantics on regulations which doesn't matter to the conversation, we agree so......
We have corporations that don't give AF about anything but profits and the Oregon legislature that SHOULD give a **** about the people and in that vein there are some that are saying "we have to do something". Some people in the legislature don't agree with the steps so they......leave with one wing nut threatening violence. That's the situation.
    What do you do?

I've been canoeing down a beautiful river for a day and a half, so haven't been following my own story..

Sounds like the D's are caving.. and the R's are still too paranoid to accept "victory".... Sound familiar??

The issue that made the news and caused the walk-out really has little to do with the bill itself. It is the fact that the Democrats presented the bill under Oregon's Emergency Act. This prevents the voters on having a say on the issue.....i.e., it can never be put on a ballot initiative to be approved or disapproved by the Oregon voters. Had they not presented this bill under the Emergency Act, I doubt the walk-out would have occurred, and the bill might have actually passed. However, if enough signatures were gathered on a petition through our Referendum Process, it could be forced to appear on a ballot for the State voters to approve or disapprove.....even if it was already passed by our State Congress and signed by our Governor.

This issue is NOT an emergency to a point where 6 more months would make a difference. Our State Legislation has a long track record of forcing bills through our Congress as Emergency Acts for the sole purpose of preventing voters from deciding the issue.

Too much of an issue is being made because some rude Congressman talked tough. He did not directly threaten violence and it is quite obvious that he was just spewing rhetoric. Yes, it was inappropriate, but that is really as bad as it is. The State Police would not have forced him to return at gun point and I doubt if he would have committed any violence against the State Police. If talking tough is all that is required to label someone as a wing nut, then I suspect we are all a bit of a wing nut at times.

What do we do??? Quite easy. The Democrats need to stop presenting bills as Emergency Acts for the sole purpose of circumventing a system that is in place and that allows voter to decide issues that could greatly impact the State.

Intel is in the process of creating one of their largest facilities ever, in Oregon. Intel is already the largest manufacturer in Oregon.

Every time Oregon passes new environmental regulations, the Republicans claim it will hurt business. But it never does.

Then perhaps the next piece of legislation put on the ballot for consideration is repealing of the emergency act, so that such abuse cannot continue.

That has been tried, but failed. The arguments against repealing it made it sound like the Governor or our Congress could never declare anything as an emergency if it was repealed, which is not how the initiative was written.

Yeah, but I know it falls on deaf ears.
