The fact that the decision was leaked shows us what a partisan creep Alito is. But, if confirmed, this has the potential to change many things. First of all, if Democrats had a spine (and they don't), this would be the opportunity to add more non-partisan justices ("pack the court", as right-wingers like to call it). But I doubt that will happen. What could happen is that this might be a turning point for the mid-terms. Maybe a wake up call for people who still believe in Democracy and rights to defend those rights. Maybe... because, if we don't, then we DESERVE to live in a fascist regime. Because if they overturn Roe v Wade, why not overturn Obamacare, gay rights, ... maybe parts of Brown v Board of Education. It's up to the people now, if we are to defend democracy and human rights. This has the potential to be the decisive turn democrats needed for the midterms. But this is not about winning elections. It's about doing the right thing.

Since medical procedures are beyond the appropriate role of federal government, it makes sense to turn it over the states. The 10th amendment says that is where it belongs.
I don't think it's a big deal. I suspect that this ruling will rightly state that it's not a Federal Constitutional right, which it clearly isn't, but, it certainly is a legislative right for any State that wishes to make it so. Hell, there probably is an argument for Federal Legislation, if that's what the country wants. “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.” And of course, this is a 3 month old draft, there could have been substantial changes over the last 3 months.

R v W is not about medical procedures, it's about a 'right' to a medical procedure. Rights are very much the purview of the Constitution. Just as the second amendment is not about guns, it's about the RIGHT to own them. Guns are regulated by states. Abortion is regulated by sates, but the RIGHT to them is granted by Scotus, interpreting the constitution as a penumbra right. Alito is wrong. And if his draft is allowed to stand, there will be hell to pay by republicans.
