"The mob kicked in the door, dragged Khan from his room and beat him to death, witnesses and police said. The death in the northwestern city of Mardan is the latest violence linked to accusations of blasphemy in Pakistan"

Can any Westerner even contemplate the possibility of members of any of our own religious groups doing all that? And it's only the latest such incident; how many more have there been? See what I mean when I keep saying 'They're different to us, and ne'er the twain shall meet.'?

Potentially, but apparently some don’t need the excuse of religion; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-39656052 . Maybe the human propensity for violence isn't limited by religion, nationality or race.

I could be wrong of course, but prior to the outbreak of incidents where acid is the sanction of choice for errant daughters who want to marry without their father's approval, I'd never heard of acid attacks. [IMG] Had you, HonestJoe?

As it happens yes, but I used to work with kids on the fringes of some pretty nasty gangs.

That wasn’t the point though, the point was that people (even “Westerners”) are perfectly capable of being horrific to each other with or without the excuse of religion.

Seems to me to be more a case of ethnic habits or customs than religion.

Global News, eh? Could be part of the 96%. Why is this incident even "News" in Canada? Is there a shortage of violence in Canada or US they could arouse us with? Me thinks the aim here is to stir up dislike and hate for the Muslims, for Islam.
Have you ever read as much about Israelis beating their own? Or in Germany the Germans beating each other up? I haven't! It is only world-news when it is the Muslims.

Every human have the potential for the worst violence possible and their is no place in the world who didn't knew the worst atrocities (except antartica). However, not all religion or philosophies encourage violence. The history of Muhammed is full of violence, an he is the most perfect man for the muslims, a model who can't be overtaken.

Then why do so many of the anti-Muslims come across as being much more aggressive and violent than many of the Muslims I see and know? Could it be that casual generalisations are simply wrong and the nature of the individual is key? The violent will find excuses for their violence and the peaceful will find reasons for their peace. Sometimes the two be different sides of the same coin.

Violence is not a specifity of Islam, but in almost all muslims countries, their is violence against gay people, women, apostates...

    Some much more than others.

Its a question of frequency and severity, quite frankly.
