    So very true. The mean-spirited and small-minded people inspired by Trump are so desperate in their absurd examples.

    On the rights of the NFL players to dissent, I am somewhat encouraged by the Barnette case from 1943 regarding compelling students to stand and salute during the national anthem, 319US624.

    From that decision, "Under the federal constitution, compulsion as here employed is not a permissible means of achieving "national unity."

    It's really just that simple. Those words were from Mr. Justice Jackson, who went on to become a judge in the Nuremberg proceedings.

    It is common for teams with losing records to have low attendance at games, but it's also true that many fans are angry about having to consider social justice, and react by not watching.
