Prepare your firewood and clean that fireplace, our American fellows.
I wouldn't want to be in Chicago right now. ;)

Meanwhile down in Australia - you know that place the other side of the globe - there has been record breaking heat waves

If you are going to talk about the global temperature you have to look further than one small spot

Well, I live in Chicago and will be on my way to work in one hour!
If I survive I’ll keep posting here.

On another note - where my effing global warming? The city is just a few hundred miles from being sub-tropics.

If you have a village by a forest where people use wood to keep their homes warm then wood is sustainable, as it was for thousands of years. If you gather wood on industrial scale for export then obviously it’s not sustainable.
I think the companies that take down trees should always be tasked with replanting new trees for future.

The BBC was talking about it this morning. The tilt has moved and you have what should be over the artic but fortunately this time it will only stay a few days. Everyone though was being advised to stay in and not to breathe if you go outside without ten scarves over your nose and mouth!! Hope everyone is OK.

    My water pipe froze!
    Son of a biatch!!!!!! :wall:
At least it’s just shower pipe, the rest of the house has water. Oh well, going to have to have my wife try to open faucet every hour or so to prevent pressure buildup.

Being outside sucks, my car didn’t want to start, but it did with a sound that sounded to me like “WTF are you doing, go home....” Cold goes through clothes quickly. I started feeling uncomfortably cold just about 30 seconds after I left my house.

Well, have another trip home in the evening and trip to work tomorrow morning and this is over. Hope my damn pipe doesn’t burst!

    Exactly. Climate is not weather.

Climate skeptics need to stop referring to isolated weather events to show it's not happening.

Climate advocates need to stop referring to isolated weather events to show it's happening.

stop referring to deniers as skeptics... a true skeptic is capable of critical though and accept scientific evidence because they don't comprehend basic science and the scientific process...how many decades has this discussion being going on and we still have deniers who can't grasp the difference between weather and climate...

To be fair, I've seen a fair few advocates do the same thing.

It's a popular argument. Both sides want to convince the public, and the public experiences weather, not climate.

Do you ever attempt not to be a charicature of the right wing? Do you do it on purpose or does it just come naturally?

But you are making the exact point for them ....

Why do YOU only talk about excessive heat, yet ignore excessive cold?

You are literally making their point for them. All the media constantly screams about high tempearatures the world over, yet of course, cold temperatures are completely ignored by that same media.

It is a HUGE reason why more people don't care about climate change, they see you guys as hypocrites and also as people who will completely avoid or bend the truth to get what you want.

If you yourself started talking about both ends of the spectrum (like you just said yourself) more people would listen instead of thinking they are being lied to.

ignore????? that's all the media has been covering for the last week is the cold everyday all day, I don't even bother watching the news channels the first ten minutes is devoted to the weather...it's a polar vortex, get over it already...

no they don't care about climate change because they don't have the education to understand climate is not political nor do they have sufficient education to understand grade school science...
