if the oceans die, we die...I suspect climate change co2 emissions are at the top because it will absolutely kill the oceans, what we throw into our rivers are damaging but not the extent that co2 emissions will....jmo...

Serious ones. Ocean provides the oxygen you breath so you might want to pay some attention ;)

CO2 is not at the top ... it just gets all the attention. It makes for good movies I suppose. Pollution of the oceans you might find on p72 of the NY-Times down in the corner. Unless one reads Science mags - such as wierdo's like me :) you do not hear much about it.

CO2 is a problem for the Oceans - no doubt and some stuff we don't know .. for example Warming will increase microbiological activity = CO2 degradation and warm water species can absorb more carbon. The possibility of ocean acidification is concerning for sure.

That said - we have a major pollution problem that is having a serious affect right now. If we had to we could turn of the CO2 tap - filtering crap the oceans is much more difficult - to the point of near impossible.

Google "dead zones" This is due to fertilizer run off which stimulates bacteria. The bacterial then use up the oxygen making the area anaerobic. There has been a massive increase in these dead zones - and these are just the ones we know about. We don't have to guess .. don't have to predict - it is happening right before our eyes. Same with levels of toxins such as Mercury in Tuna we can measure this and the levels are getting high.

I read a study roughly 10 years ago. At the time there were 1.4 Billion people on the planet industrialized. The study basically said that if China reached our level of consumption - world resource production would have to double... that's just China - never mind India, the rest of Asia and God forbid Africa ever get's its sht together.

Thing on this ... 7.5 Billion on the planet. That is less than 20%. Industrialization tends to be rather dirty. Just getting to 40% industrialized will double the amount of toxic waste going into the Oceans - and we are already hitting benchmarks.. More than 2 cans of Tuna a week and you exceed the Mercury Guideline for Pregnant women. The breast milk of Inuit women up north is to toxic to put on a store shelf. Toxins tend to accumulate more in the north + larger sea animals like Seals have a way higher toxin loading through bioaccumulation. Small fish accumulate toxins... bigger fish eat the small fish = more accumulation, seals eat the bigger fish and there you go.

Obviously industrialization will also dramatically increase CO2 levels. Take someone from eating a bowl of rice a day (or less) and if all of a sudden they are eating meat once a week this is a huge increase in the amount of fertilizer that need to be used to grow livestock feed. These folks want the iphone's too.

We created this mess with basically 1.4 Billion people. Industrializing the rest of the world (and continued population growth) is the most serious problem we face both from a Pollution of the Oceans and a CO2 perspective.

Am I the only one who notices a weird trend among liberals - if it’s abput climate change they are on board with all of the scientists that support the idea of man-made climate change. Everyone supports every scientist they can find.
Yet, when you start talking about GMO foods, apparently libs become smarter than the scientists and claim GMO is bad for you, regardless of what the UN says.

Because climate change is obvious and the UN is a leftist, globalist organization that is not to be trusted.
    Enjoy your Sunday 50F.

off on a tangent are you?...I guess you're the one who notices because like climate change denial you pulled it out of your butt...instead of derailing a thread start a GMO thread and see if anyone cares

I remember 2 years ago a violent blizzard hit in April! Telecommunications and electricity went off for 3 days. Nobody knew nothing, no news, no phone batery, no heating. I noticed people getting nervous after 2 days...we joked that russians are coming lol.

This winter seems normal.. 10 degrees Fahrenheit. I don't even live that far north...Continental east Europe is this harsh.

Are you guys complaining at 50 Fahrenheit temp?

I didn't notice any climate change here. Same harsh winters, same hot summers.

It isn't a polar vortex but a huge cold low pressure system spinning storms of heavy rain/ mt. snow across the West Coast. Some of the coldest maximums in years will occur this week. But because of the clouds night temps stay above freezing.

No, I am always willing to admit when I've made a mistake, been stupid or just plain wrong. OTOH, I can totally understand how a partisan would object to adamant opposition to their particular ideologies and attitudes and project that as "inflexibility".

You are just a political nag

    A non-partisan backseat driver

You have no share of the power because you dont vote

or never back a winning candidate so that you will never have to take responsibility for anything

Problem is, weather records haven't been kept for that long really so in the history of the North American continent, it's likely to have experienced colder conditions.

The coldest conditions of this winter are occuring over the western part of the country. Snow is forecast to drop down to sea level in the northwest again this weekend. Light snow was reported in Seattle earlier this week with more to come. Frost is fairly widespread in SoCal this morning. Nice to get a taste of winter especially all the rain and snow in the mountains.
