https://crooksandliars.com/2020/05/because-coronavirus-risk-paul-manafort I don't have a problem with him being released due to the pandemic. But shouldn't all non-violent offenders over 50 be similarly released?
Yes. Now that we have sorted out (at least for now, I think) the ventilator shortage issue, those factories should start producing ankle bracelets.
In my State tons of non-violent offenders have been released on home confidment.....the Gov has also essential communed the sentences of non-violent offenders with a year or less to serve. https://www.bop.gov/resources/news/20200405_covid19_home_confinement.jsp "The BOP has increased Home Confinement by over 40% since March and is continuing to aggressively screen all potential inmates for Home Confinement. On April 3, the Attorney General exercised emergency authority under the CARES Act, to further increase Home Confinement."

What is interesting, when these repeat their crimes they usually go for the weak and unprepared. Our firearms training of recent have all been first time leftie leaning gun owners. Watch us turn them sharply right.
Not only released, but I think home arrest suffices for MOST non-violent offenders in general. Here's the basic thing: If you put a non-violent offender in general population, what habits do they pick up? VIOLENT habits. That and our incarceration numbers are way too big. That said, don't confuse this with 'defense' of Paul Manafort, I don't have any for him. He violated the law, he engaged in massive money laundering and fraud, deriving the US Government of its dutiful taxes. Manafort is entirely different from Page, Papadoupolis and Flynn. Where there may be bias, is that the DOJ was aware of criminal activity as early as 08-09 and only chose the Russian Investigation to act. But it doesn't change that his acts were against the law.
He should be released although I do question why he received preferential treatment (there wasn’t an issue at his facility). Cohen’s release has been held up and there is an issue at his facility.
