Well, Trump is full of surprises.
While Pootin is celebrating Syria the US Air Force fortifies NATO defenses at Russian doorstep.

Better in what way ? - and Better for who ? What is it that we are deterring. Second time now I have asked.

Its your OP - nothing else to say ?

If Russia Attacks Europe (France, Germany, Britain) - an absurd notion to begin with - we are talking nuclear war. This is why major nuclear powers do not attack each other - sans the Pakistani - India row - which was not a "war" not one nation making a serious attack against the other.

We can get odds on Trump winning 2020 - What do you think the odds of Russia attacking France in the next 2 years is ?

What a colossal waste of money - I suppose now that the latest ME war is over in Syria - and that area of the world wants less and less to do with us ... perhaps we need a new parking spot for our planes - and that is all the work they will get.

The Military Industrial Complex is running out of nations to attack .. reasons to keep up that 1 Trillion dollar per year gravy train flowing... Sure - Lets pretend Russia is going to attack Europe - and that if it was a conventional attack that Europe is incapable of defending itself.

Surely you know how limited Russia's offensive capacity is (sans nukes nukes and more nukes) ? They have a total of 1 aircraft carrier and we are not even sure if that is operable at the moment .. dry dock issues. Europe has planes - lots of em - they make them.

The idea of Russia launching a serious conventional attack on mainland Europe is preposterous absurdity .. not even close to passing the "Giggle Test". The idea that Europe is not fully capable of defending itself is another laugh.

We have Pilots going on 60 minutes stating how they refused to fly the F-35 - and one of the dudes who was involved in the design of the F-16 and A-10 saying it is a lemon. Best that they are parked in a spot where they will not be used.

These planes will not be restricted to Europe, though it may look that way in the headlines..
There are other areas of the world which need 'deterring' but by calling it NATO it might well be the US share of contributions - yet available everywhere.

"As part of this equation, an F-35 might also increasingly be called upon to function as a key element of U.S. nuclear deterrence strategy. In recent years, F-35s were deployed to the Pacific theater to participate in military exercises over the Korean Peninsula".

Yes .. must deter Russia from a nuclear attack from Russia using F-35's ? How exactly does that work ?

I can hear the Russian Military Strategists now " OMG - there are F-35s in Europe - we better put off that nuclear launch we were planning"

    A "Key Element" - yeah .. OK.

Well, I guess people in charge of the US military believe war with Russia is winnable.

Now what are you talking about ... Your OP - and my post responding to your OP - is about deterrence . Where does this talk of winning a war with Russia come from ... Is this some kind of - "I don't have anything to say so I will make something up that does not address the topic" default mode kicking in ?

Then your comment itself is false - There is nothing in your OP that indicates that the people in charge of the US military believe a nuclear war with Russia is winnable.

Your "nuclear war is winnable" claim is laughable - and you have been schooled on your error in this respect numerous times.

Russia not reduce its nuclear arsenal's from 40,000 down to 5000 so it would be in danger of losing a nuclear war - They did so because they know that they have enough nukes to destroy the US multiple times over - maintaining nuclear detente'.

    Well con

Conventionally it would bevsn easy fight..

But you're right, no one wins s nuclear war.

Winning is probably not the right word to describe having any war go your way..

LOL - assuming that were possible - which is laughable nonsense on steroids - If Russia was intending a first strike - how would we know the Russian's were fueling their ICBM's .. in time to take out thousands of missiles - with 100 planes ?

Then there is the Homer Simpson " Duuuuoooppph .. stupid brain" moment that would happen when - as we are attacking the Russian Homeland - their Subs launch.

1 sub - 16 missiles (10 MIRV per missile) = 160 bombs - each roughly 7 times the size of Hiroshima. Wipe 160 US cities of population 500,000 or more off the map and let me know what you are left with.

and that is just one sub.

I am all for spending our money to get our fighter pilots more experience. So that if they ever are needed they live to kill the next bad guys.

Considering the Ukraine/Crimea/Georgia history that Russia has built for itself, ANY deterrence put forth by NATO is a very good Idea. As far as Nukes, nobody (including Putin) is stupid enough to play that game. Russia loves to talk about some super Duper weapon but never seems to do anything but talk....the chest beating is not believed by anyone of consequence.

This is probably true.. and it is as it should be. Such decisions shouldn't come from the white house.

Political leaders come up with policy.

Generals determine the amount of force required and where

    Airforce determination who and what

Squadron commanders make all other decisions

It's probably not a bad idea, but comes right after the US betrayed its ally in Syria, extending Russian influence there, and with a 17 yro war unfinished in Afghan.

You are the one who were schooled.
You used to run around claiming Russia has 20mt bombs ready to go which was proven false.

Don’t count weapons that sit in storage.
Active warhead count is around 1500.

Increased activity at ICBM sites would hint at something going on. Do you think there are no satellites watching them?

Once again, you don’t understand MIRVs range - one missile can’t reach New York and Chicago. These 16 warheads would end up in the same approximate area.

We saw what Russia did to Ukraine and Georgia.
Baltic countries are NATO and Pootin doesn’t hide his aspirations to restore USSR.

    Invading more countries.

Indeed. Vlad the Invader is a revanchist warmonger and him and his fanboys and girls always whine when anyone takes steps to deter his aggression.
