with a little help from the CPS. A statement from some dogsbody in Scotland Yard said: 'Hey, so we ****ed this kid's life up for 2 years, and we've said sorry - what more do you expect us to do! Let's just move on shall we!'

What they really said was "Surrey Police admitted its initial investigation into Mr Mears, now 19, had been flawed."

If I read any time that the police - or any other public body in the UK as a matter of fact - have taken on something and made a success of it, I won't be able to stand the shock, I just know I won't! And we haven't heard the last of this yet . . .

Surrey Police said it is now reviewing all of its rape cases "to ensure that investigations are thorough, timely, effective and compliant with policy and guidelines." It comes after Scotland Yard said it would review all sex crime investigations where a suspect had been charged, following the collapse of two rape prosecutions in a week.
