Heya girly girl....just thought I would stop in for a bit. Only about a month 'til Lee's latest points wear off.
do not use round up weed killer, there are infomercials with lawyers saying it caused cancer some ant acids, and baby powder too.
Can anyone suggest a non toxic, non Roundup method of suppressing weeds in a gravel path? A spray with vinegar or salt may work but will alter the soil and may reach nearby plants after rain. I have to be careful of any chemicals because we have bees.
Ash from a coal fire was a traditional way to keep paths clear of weeds. Thankfully, few people burn coal any more.
I just put down table salt on the weeds on my paved areas. Doesn't seem to affect any of the other plants at the edges. Coal contains all kinds of toxic crap like sulfur that turns into acid.
No, wood ash would actually feed the weeds as it contains high levels of potassium. However, after reading up on the use of coal ash it might not be such a good idea. It will kill weeds but contains so many toxins including arsenic you might actually be better off using weedkillers.
I've started a farming thread where I've just dropped this short video of us threshing here at Hulver Farm but I thought I'd put it here as well since I've talked a bit about threshing and thatching here. http://www.politicalforum.com/index.php?threads/farming-and-conservation.578753/
Well this is a sharp turn from weedkillers, but since I have, "Insufficient privileges," to post in Announcements & Community Discussions, before I stick this in a bottle & set it adrift in Feedback & Questions, I figured I'd give here a try-- I've read various posts about, "thread of the month, " & the like. Is this something that has ever been awarded &, if so, is there a repository at which my privileges may be sufficient for me to go read them?
I got a response from Falena, under Feedback & Questions, about thread of the month. She said they used to do it but have since stopped. She also said those old winners could be found through a site search but I'd been unsuccessful in the past w/ that. Quite possible, though, that I just didn't do it right. Let me know if you figure it out, OK? Here's Falena's post: We use to have a thread of the month. Members would nominate threads and then vote. It started with minimal interest and eventually that even lessened. Eventually we decided that was that and ended setting the threads up. You can do a site search for those old threads.
