Le Pen hasn't a chance in hell.

Do you read the election surveys? She wins second-place in the first round, then is soundly beaten in the second and final round.

Just like her father did twice years ago ...

Look, we could be the best of friends over a glass of beer eyeing the French ladies as they pass by on the Champs Elysées.

But this is a debate-forum. We are just arguing points-of-view, and I find yours a bit naive.

Don't get bent-out-of-shape over it. It means nothing.

Just words on the internet ether ...

Right. How much income tax is now not being generated? That's a hell of a lot more than some property taxes and sales tax on a home.

Funny, I remember hearing the same thing in the US.

Well, then debate, engage the arguments presented, not the ones you THINK might be presented elsewhere. This is a debate forum, it's for debating, yet you won't actually debate, but rather dismiss whatever you disagree with some meaningless phrase.

You accuse others of being naive and not understanding French politics yet you right Marine Le Pen off because her father lost before her. She is a much shrewder operator than her Father and has more appeal to the French voters. Don't forget she threw Daddy out of the party for being too extreme. She has at least twice the support he had.
I hope to God she doesn't get in power but write her off at your own risk. It would only take another large scale Islamic terrorist act to get voters angry enough to vote her in.
People said Brexit wasn't going to win and said the same about Trump. France is not immune from populist rhetoric either.

Since when did France call a referendum anyway?

People running for power promising one if they reach power isn't the same.

Perhaps you'd prefer that I say nothing except "Moving right along" to your remarks that go nowhere?

Fine - moving right along ...

Yes, because she is preaching the same invective as her father did. (She kicked him out of party-leadership to take his post.)

The latest poll has her down another 1.5% as the voting day approaches (Sunday) and at 20%. (No, I give no great credibility to polls in primary votes - look what they did for Hillary.)

LePen might do exactly like she did in the past - make into the first round, then fail miserably in the second. In fact, the top four are all around 20% so she might not even make it out of the first-round.

With any luck! Because then the election would be a real toss-up between "real candidates". (LePen has nothing to say except invective against the standing order - she has no feasible solution whatsoever for the future. Just like most of the fanatical Right in this world.)

We shall see on Sunday ... and I could care less. There is not one candidate who understands what's wrong with France, and it is its inability to pursue a "real economic policy". The economy started coming apart at the seams in 2000 with a reduction in weekly hours to 35. Now it is struggling to allow shops to reopen on Sunday afternoon in major tourist cities (and only in certain sectors) - which just shows how inept France is at managing its own economy.

It vaunts its industrial strength but its mainstay revenues are in Tourism. Germany is crying for workers and France has unemployment at 10% - which sums up the situation neatly ...

Some people MUST HAVE the last word. You've had yours.

Do you feel better now ... ?

I count nine since the 1960. See here: Les référendums de la Ve République et leurs résultats, le 8 02 2017

When's the last time you saw a national referendum in the US?

Nevah! Because the US has them ONLY on a local and state level ...

Great democracy we've got going - NO NATIONAL REFERENDUMS and an Electoral College that steals presidencies from the winner of the Popular Vote . . . . . . . .

No, she was already party leader when she expelled him. He merely held the honorary title of president for life. She booted him out for his overt racism which was damaging the party.

The ''so what'' is that if you dismiss her as merely another racist like her father you are vastly underestimating her popularity, much like Trump or the Brexit supporters were and we all know what happened there.....

Her popularity stands at 20% amongst French voters.

I doubt seriously that I am "misinterpreting" anything about her ...
