The media: playing the government's game, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, 1985

"U.S. journalists are accustomed to accepting the dictates of 'national security' and Washington's view of the world, while remaining unshakably certain of their own objectivity."

Poll: Majority Says Mainstream Media Is FAKE NEWS

Manufacturing consent. Our factless Free Press has been doing this for decades. Those of us who analyze media coverage closely, most of whom oppose Trump, have been observing the current war propaganda as simply business as usual for the corporate media, which has proven to have no red lines when it comes to how far they will go to fulfill its function. Some outlets have gone as far as favoring or even AIDING terrorism and other war crimes.

    Then there's this utter madness:
"Russia Hysteria Is Making US International Laughing Stock"- Chomsky

What should be plainly obvious is that this narrative is meant to build public support for an eventual first strike on the Russian territory. This was was planned by the DOD just after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Elite hostility against Trump is motivated by this. His unwillingness to fully cooperate with the deep state on this has led to Neo-McCarthiest allegations that he's Putin's puppet.
And like with all other U.S. imperial activities, the intelligence is being fixed around the policy:
But no matter how many times it happens the vast of majority of people forget because the corporate ensures that they do. Meanwhile:

Nearly two-thirds of Americans say the mainstream press is full of fake news, a sentiment that is held by a majority of voters across the ideological spectrum.

According to data from the latest Harvard-Harris poll, which was provided exclusively to The Hill, 65 percent of voters believe there is a lot of fake news in the mainstream media.

That number includes 80 percent of Republicans, 60 percent of independents and 53 percent of Democrats. Eighty-four percent of voters said it is hard to know what news to believe online.

“Much of the media is now just another part of the partisan divide in the country with Republicans not trusting the ‘mainstream’ media and Democrats seeing them as reflecting their beliefs,” said Harvard-Harris co-director Mark Penn. “Every major institution from the presidency to the courts is now seen as operating in a partisan fashion in one direction or the other.”

    Also from this source:

However, the Harvard-Harris survey found that 60 percent of all voters believe Trump is treating the press unfairly. Only 48 percent said the media is treating Trump unfairly.

“Voters show concern about direct attacks on the media by the president even when they have questions about it,” Penn said.

So just because they're anti-Trump they're on the side of the people. That's real sophisticated. They somehow don't notice the pro-war bias aspect of that. Remember the media propagating for the Iraq War and how angry you were Democrats? Or was that just because it was Bush's war?

A lot of people don't trust the media. Why should they? So much of it is biased. It's just not all biased one way, and then there's all the fake news outlets and blogs out there that do not adhere to any journalistic standards, yet get shared as much if not more than MSM sources via social media. The internet is increasingly untrustworthy as a source of news and information and demands ever more scrutiny and skepticism on the part of the consumer.

It is biased mostly one way - "the values and interests of private power and the state-corporate nexus that represents it." - Chomsky

I think the perception of bias began with the right wing and their own biased media, beginning of course with Fox News. This is what tends to happen when a bunch of ideologues are surrounded by people who disagree with them - they break away and form their own little enclave, rather than adjust their views to the mainstream, such as we see happen all the time in religion when a sect breaks away to form a new church. Fox practically created a new brand of conservatism that has since grown to take over the majority of the right, and so the entire right have moved farther right and further removed from basic reality.

Here's Proof The Media Really Is Liberal.....

Many Americans believe liberals dominate our media, and it turns out they may be right.

Crowdpac, a non-partisan political data analysis company, used more than 30 years of federal campaign finance records to estimate where donors to political campaigns stood on the political spectrum. Donors were scored as being more liberal or more conservative based on the ideology of the candidates they gave to.

In a data set Crowdpac provided to Business Insider, the company broke these estimates down to indicate whether individual professions were dominated by liberals or conservatives.

Among many other interesting results, the data shows that donors who work for newspapers or other print media skew extremely liberal.

Meh. What even is a "liberal" at this point? Seems to me it's defined by the wagon-circling, paranoid conservatives.

The press likes liberals better than conservatives because liberals are more likable.

What I think is most significant is that "60 percent of independents" say mainstream media is fake news.

Fox News and its affiliates came from Reagan's Office of Public Diplomacy (OPD). The Free Press cooperated with this program.

I was a little surprised that Republicans were so much higher; I'd expect independents like myself to be most dissatisfied and distrustful of mainstream media.

I wonder how long Republicans have felt this way to such an extent? I wonder what the statistic would have been prior to Trump's run, and again prior to 0bama.

Why are you asking that question yet posting in this thread?

Fox was a reaction to decades of full on left wing tilt in the media. So they decided to make their own right wing tilt and it did amazingly.

Recently Fox is now seeming to follow the typical media bias, just on the other side.

Again, the way you word this makes it very apparent you are not an independent.

Left-wing tilt? What exactly is left-wing about yearning for war with Russia and EVERY SINGLE OTHER WAR THE US HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN? They supported ALL OF THEM. Covert and overt.

Yes, that's right. A left-wing tilt. The New York Times, for example, explicitly advocates imposing "Free Trade" around the world:
    Classic liberal media.

When a government wants to become a dictatorship, the first thing they have to do is convince the 'sheep' that all news is fake and the only thing that is believable is what they, the leaders tell you. Anything here sound familiar????????????

Ok, so the government has a secret agenda and the media lies to create public opinion. The establishment is not in service to us.

What would you propose we do about it? Vote?

    Give us a suggestion.

How is it in totalitarian societies the people there never ask such questions even though they face the threat of being assassinated or disappeared for their efforts. But they keep at it. Look at the mass movements of the 60s for some ideas. Womans rights and civil rights were won through mass mobilization. The New Deal was made possible by the same. Roosevelt didn't do it on his own.

    :deadhorse:<--- fake Russia story

They can't help it. If promoting a lie hurts Trump, they will do it. They will say/do anything, justify/defend any action if it helps them politically. Just ask Bill Clinton.
