I find it interesting that in Germany it is against the law to display the swastika flag and it can get you 3 years in prison. All WWII monuments are tributes to the victims of the Nazi regime. In the American south monuments were erected to glorify the oppressors' not the victims. In 1933 Albert Einstein fled Germany to escape the Nazis only to run headlong into American racism. He became a champion for civil rights in America.

Rules didn't change. It was just that people advanced spiritually to a higher level where they could more fully comprehend God and what He consisted of. This is why the words and terms used in the Old and New Testament are different. God as Pure love and Creation cannot harm and destroy what he created. It would be an oxymoron, but for lack of a better way of expressing the consequences of man's own actions, God presents Himself as a punishing God.

When God revealed Himself to Abraham, He showed that unlike the pagan (demon) gods they worshipped, that He was our 'Creator' God and didn't expect appeasement and sacrifice. He showed this to Abraham when He stopped him from sacrificing his son - which at the time was a common practice, especially among the Semites. In Carthage, they threw their first born into the fire to appease the demons when under attack.

When the time was ripe, and people reached a higher level of comprehension, God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses and showed that He consisted of a set of moral laws. Later on, with the advent of Christ, God revealed Himself fully and showed that He was more than just laws, but consisted of Pure Love - even to the extent of sacrificing His Son - something people of that time could still relate to. That way people would be able to unite with God in His own Existence/Dimension after death - if they so choose.

Anyway these are my conclusions as to the OT and NT, but I believe I'm theologically correct. As for the Islamic prophet Mohamed, well when Pope Benedict XVI quoted a Byzantine emperor asking a Muslim cleric what Mohamed added to the revelation of God above that of Christ, they freaked. So much for reasoning and discussion.

I have news for you. Today the political football is Christianity. How many are aware that there has been a genocide of Christians going on in the past decade to the tune of 300 a day - mostly in Syria and by the same terrorists we support?

Not the law about executing children who curse their parents.

that law was never specifically undone.

I understand that you can't actually address what I said and need to try to change the subject to something else.

When the Catholics made this rule, they didn't have the massive over-population issue we have now. They also didn't understand science and evolution. I personally see this as a blessing in disguise. They give to the system more than they take and usually end up adopting children that got left behind by the parents. They are way less of a strain on society so they should not be shunned. Maybe I should convert to a different kind of Christianity since I don't really believe ALL of the Catholic guidelines. Its also smart of this Pope, IMO. The liberals crap on Catholicism left and right and maybe stuff like this will finally shut them up and their hate for Catholics. (although they love Muslims who hate gays way more, so go figure!)

Jews have been criticizing literalist interpretations of the creation story (as well as pointing out that Genesis actually contains more than one creation story) for centuries. Hell, I have yet to meet a single Jew who takes Genesis literally. For the most part, only fundamentalist Christians do that. Criticizing a belief isn't "anti-semitic". Ask any Jew.

And yet killing anyone is a major sin - even in times of war. The Orthodox and the early Church follow the Septuagint, which was the translation of the OT into Koini Greek in Alexandria around 300 BC, since it was the common language at the time. We believe it is a more correct version, since the original Hebrew texts disappeared when Jerusalem was destroyed.

According to legend, 70 Rabbis were asked to translate the OT separately, and to everyone's surprise, the translations turned out to be exactly the same. It was considered a miracle.

Brenton Translation of the Septuagint (LXX)
    Leviticus 20:9

Every man who shall speak evil of his father or of his mother, let him die the death; has he spoken evil of his father or his mother? he shall be guilty.

If a gay person is sick, a Christian Church will not deny him consolation or anything that might change his heart and save his soul. So why shouldn't society and especially the family of a gay person do the same? By showing compassion, they might be saving their own soul as well.

Catholics didn't make any rule. They weren't the ones that created our physical world. God did, so I'm sure He understood science and evolution very well. Man keeps trying to solve problems thinking that he's in charge, but he's not. Whenever the natural order of this world is disrupted, there will be major problems - and we're starting to see them.

The fact that sexual orientation comes in many flavors in humans and other animals is one of the cases of nature being something that some humans want to deny.

And, that denial IS a major problem.

This is something that Christian churches have been slowly recognizing and its good to see this step by the Catholic hierarchy.

Of course it's slow, as religion always wants to see it's opinions on any and all topics as immutable dogma. After years of claiming that some answer came directly from god, it's hard to reverse course no matter how wrong the answer is recognized to be.

Pope Francis I is the greatest Pope in my lifetime, & possibly the best Pope ever. This move took courage on his part, but it ties into our times & into the ultimate teachings of Jesus like nothing I've ever witnessed from a Pope. Good for Francis!!!!

Yet the radicals won't be happy. They want Christianity to change just for their crossed wiring in their brains.

I support civil unions. But not changing biblical teachings . That is just going into the realm of loony tunes.

If you are Jewish, you view it as an ethnicity.

The “shy spirit”’thing kind of gave it away.

Very few religious Jews take the Genesis creation story (which is actually more than one creation story, as any Jew can tell you) seriously. It isn't "antisemitism" to think critically about the text. It's a longstanding Jewish tradition to do so. I'm sorry if that is inconvenient for your dogmas, but it remains true.

Now we need to follow the teaching that says women in church should cover their hair so angels would not be tempted!

No need for men to cover their heads in church. For angels are not homosexuals and not attracted to other males.

Will there be homosexuals passing through the pearly gates into heaven? QueerOr will the gay folks burn for eternity?

Why does god shun the queer people?.

    Why did he create them?

In the US, every marriage recognized by the state is a civil union by definition. It's a contract with the state.

So, I doubt there are many Americans who don't support civil unions.

I'll bet that some Americans would like to stamp something rude across the marriage licenses of some citizens - in the name of religion or whatever.

You didn't tell us who you think should be the determining factor in what is right and what is wrong, or don't you think human nature should have boundaries? We believe it's Christ, since He was witnessed by Saints who had excessive virtue and charisms - otherwise the world would not have split into AD and BC.

Then again there are always the self appointed gods.

Take that you fools of misery.
For we as gods of lofty see,
are unlike you - such lowly fools
    who follow banal moral rules.

We make our own, it is our right.
    It's why we reign in our great height;
and not on earth, but in our stead
of hubris and of bloated head
