I was responding to the poster who was referring to someone who had extreme high temperature, short of breath and underlying health conditions, not someone who was sneezing or quote from your post "signs of what might normally be a cold".

    LMFAO

You had to go back to 9th century China for an example of "what we could learn" omg I'm hyperventilating

Paper is even more funny. It was invented in 100 BC.

You probably should have just ignored the question since you couldn't actually answer it.

Relax, it's too early to panic.

Not to mention, your friends will also be in lockdown :p

    Yes, that's the point.

Those refusing to prepare (because they're too tough and cool) are behaving irresponsibly, IMO. Emergency services and resources will be stretched to the limit if there's a big outbreak, and these people caught out without supplies could put unecessary pressure on those services. Worse, they'll end up having to leave their homes every few days to try and find food (which is the usual protocol) ... thus risking further spread of the disease and defeating the purpose of these two week lockdowns.

It's such a small thing, to lay in a couple of weeks worth of non-perishables and basics - while supermarkets are still stocking shelves. Leaving it til the last minute puts too many people at risk of not being able to find what they need, plus it's never good for to have a panic scenario. Doing it now, calmly and progressively over a couple of weeks, is far better.

They obviously did come into contact with someone who'd recently travelled, or those someone in contact with a traveler.

It's ludicrous to say 'no contact with carrier' unless they live in some remote cave. In any given day in an urban environment, we come into contact with multiple people we don't know .. who could have been anywhere the previous week. Or THEY could have had contact with someone who'd recently travelled.

Unless the virus can also be transmitted through other means not just via close contact with an infected person.

That's the only way a virus can spread. In our modern world, there's simply no way of tracking contacts. We encounter too many strangers, ever day of our lives.

We don't know enough about the virus to state that the virus can only be transmitted via close contact. Perhaps it can lay dormant on letters, food, food wrappings etc, unlikely though

I can agree with this. We go to Costco every couple of months anyway. Stock up on some food, bottled water, maybe throw in a box of facemasks.
A local high school was closed today due to a staff member having symptoms.
    Common sense preparation.

I just order several N95 masks for my mother (she sees clients all day) as well as disposable surgical masks and Medical grade hand sanitizer. Better safe than sorry and judging by availability I am not alone. If anyone needs an N95...get it now as they wont be around soon.

Im caring for an elderly family member. I was just getting those inexpensive blue masks, or the ones from the hardware store we used when remodeling.

The White House just appointed Dr. Birx as the response team coordinator. A great pick. The President certainly has us ready and prepared for whatever happens.

Those help but are not effective at virus prevention. My wife is a transplant professional and often works in negative pressure environments where these things are mandatory and really matter.
    "
Infectious disease expert Amesh A. Adalja, MD, senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, tells Health that the N95 is still the recommended face mask for health professionals, because it has the capacity to filter out very small particles that could possibly contain the virus. “This is different than a surgical mask, which can only stop larger droplets,” says Dr. Adalja.

The N95 is designed to achieve "a very close facial fit," according to the Food and Drug Administration, and if properly fitted blocks "at least 95%" of very small test particles, though it doesn't completely eliminate the risk of illness, per the FDA."

That is none of my concern, I am invested in land, and I'm prepared to be isolated from the virus. I have no reason to panic.

    Wonderful, but irrelevant.

You said: Relax, it's too early to panic.

And I replied with another market sell-off. Do you think investors are panicking?

A good deal of market investors always panic over the slightest uncertainty in the news.

I never understood the why, but I do know some people would rather panic, wring their hands, and demand someone do something rather than do for themselves.
