If market investors "always panic over the slightest uncertainty" they would be panicking every day. They would have panicked about this virus weeks ago, when China locked down 60,000,000 people and that cruise ship was in quarantine and the cases were rising. The opposite is true. The market didn't react until it was WAY obvious this virus was going to be a problem.

I have no idea what this refers to. Do you think sick people should just suck it up?

Doomed by what? I'm not concerned about the disease, I'm concerned about the impacts on infrastructure. If you're not, you're potentially adding a load to that infrastructure at the worst possible time - when the S is actually hitting the fan.

Why are you worried about infrastructure?

And you should be too. But hey, this is entertaining, right? Nothing to see here, nothing to worry about. SMFH.

Check what's happening in quarantined cities. People are having trouble getting supplies in.

Is there a reason you're having difficulty with the quite calm and sensible measure of getting a few extra groceries in? You actually seem more 'worried' than the rational planners.

I guess you'll find out, if/when your town goes into lockdown.

Why don't you use your imagination? Schools close, businesses shut down, and supply lines slow to a trickle. This is the CDC recommended response to community spreading corona virus.

I have no 'predictions' for any nation (yours, or my own). This is predicated upon what happens to urban centres when they're put into lockdown at short notice.

China's industrial capacity is being cut down 30 to 40%.

It is amazing to see most Americans only concern with their houses and businesses because what is going cut off is all the stuff from China (and associated countries) we need to live on!

Hell, anymore if you get canned chicken and tuna for your supplies, that chicken is slaughtered and then shipped to China to be processed and canned on the appropriate labels and then shipped back to the USA! LOL

So many critical infrastructure and survival comes to China. America has slit our own throats.

I've long been an off-grid type, but not a 'prepper' (in fact, I always thought preppers were just lunatic rednecks). I've been an off-grid type primarily because I hate feeling dependent upon infrastructure and systems I have no control over. It feels like weakness, claustrophobia, and insecurity combined - to know that if someone just flicked a switch somewhere, I could starve to death. The net result of that is independent power, water, arable land, and a good proportion of our food. For me, that's the better way to live irregardless of conditions. In the best of times, and in the worst. IMO, it's better to retain your power by thinking ahead for all conditions.

I guess I'm a prepper myself, after all.

This may be good for America. It shows our dependence on China and makes Trump's agenda of America first make more sense. From dog food to military avionics, we are too dependent on other countries.

What do I do to prepare for emergencies? I keep 2-3 weeks worth of groceries, lots of bottled water, ways to cook without power, an emergency radio with wind up and solar charging to charge phones and hear warnings, plenty of guns and ammo, and plenty of cleaning supplies. My chickens can supplement my groceries with eggs or chicken dinners. I get 5-6 eggs per day for most of the year. I also have fruit and pecan trees.
