I believe President Trump should be required to make his tax returns for the last ten years, public. I also believe anyone running for President from now on should agree to make their tax returns public. It should be a requirement. We, the people, deserve to know if a prospective President is involved in shady financial dealings and /or how they are making their money.

LOL! If I'm doing something "shady" it won't be reported on my tax return. Trump generates income thru rents and royalties, and protects that income by lowing his tax liability via depreciation allowances. THAT is what the donks want to hammer on - that Trump isn't paying his "fair share" by shielding income from taxes. Besides, his taxes are done by accountants. I sincerely doubt that Trump delves into his tax return that anyone could point to any intentional wrongful filings on his part. BTW, the courts have ruled in the past that IRS regs forbid the disclosure of tax return info without a compelling reason beyond hate.

I've made the very same point regarding these liberal idiots in state governments trying to force his tax returns as a requirement to get on the ballot. At least requiring a birth certificate would have a legal basis in the Constitution, but tax returns are private property, they are covered under the Privacy Act and the 4th Amendment.
What about "state's rights"? Don't they have the right to determine their own laws when it comes to being on the ballot? Tax returns are not "private property" as far as the government is concerned. After all, where do you think that they're filed? Moreover, point out where they're covered by "privacy laws" and the 4th Amendment? Perhaps the 5th Amendment might be more applicable with Trump.
The only thing requiring people to disclose their tax returns will do is discourage ordinary people from seeking office. This does nothing but further entrench career politicians and create the sort of partisan gridlock we are seeing. Besides, there is no "shady dealing" that will be disclosed on people's tax returns.

If one wants to make that a requirement, get congress to pass the law. I'm not sure that would be upheld by the SCOTUS. The Constitution lays out the requirements for the eligibility to become president in Article II, Section 1. The release of one's taxes is not a constitutional requirement. Can additional requirements be added to the Constitutional ones? I don't think so, but I don't know. No one else does either since the SCOTUS hasn't ruled on it. If you want the new law law to apply to Trump, it wouldn't. It would have to be applied to all future announced candidates. Article I, Section 10 states No bill of attainder or ex post facto law shall be passed. So your idea of forcing all candidates to release 10 years of tax returns would only apply to future candidates and not to Trump. I voted voluntary as I think release of tax returns should be solely left to the candidates since tax returns are suppose to be a private matter.
Its not JUST the tax return disclosure, it's the whole treatment of this president by the democrats and the media. When your buzz wears off a bit, think about it.
