I am something of a news junkie; so I look forward to the national/international news at 5:00 PM (CST) every Monday through Friday.

Lately, however, the news has been pre-empted--every day--by a "briefing" from the White House, that could just as well have been transmitted by other means (including even Twitter).

I am wondering if, perhaps, the president's advisors have admonished him that his handling of this matter will either make or break his presidency; and if he is, therefore, taking a high profile in its regard.

I suppose that this is a rather cynical interpretation of events.

But I really cannot think of a better explanation.

    Can anyone else?

I agree that I don't want to watch the entire briefing. 80% of it is usually rehash of formerly released information. If he didn't have the briefings the press/media would accuse him of not taking the situation seriously. If he does have the briefings then people bitch because they don't want to watch the briefings. You can blame the press/media for the briefings.

I think he feels a strong need to get in front of the cameras. He can't do rallies any more so this is how he gets his fix.

And I have to say, his performances have been pathetic. He reads off a list of feel-good stats (and he doesn't do that particuarly well). He does not take any personal responsibility for anything, and doesn't answer any questions. He responds to questions, but he doesn't actually answer the questions that are asked. It is embarrassing.

That's funny. For the first time in 3 years I have anxiously awaited the briefing to find out progress toward defeating the pathogen that has caused my social hour to be banned. I don't need to listen as washed up and aspiring pundits report how much they hate the President. That is what Twitter is for.

Broadcasting status and needs have resulted in solutions that would have been unavailable in darkness. Even a roomful of people on the phone trying to source equipment that matches needs and equipment that could be converted would likely not have met with the apparent success the task force is achieving.

If Trump were looking for visibility, he wouldn't have chosen the format the briefings have taken and he wouldn't have taken to the podium with absolutely no sleep at all as was apparent earlier in the week.

    Hate on!

Here it is! The utter nonsense of the left. Instantly making it all about Trump. All the while ramping up fear to push a failed agenda. He's the man of the hour because you folks made it so. The only way you win is if America loses...

    A few things:
    - I'm not on "the left"
    - This thread is entirely about Trump's briefings, so how does my post "make it all about Trump"? The thread is about Trump.
    - My post did not push any agenda
    - He is not "the man of the hour". He is the one who is trying to be the man of the hour by starting the briefings every day. He would be better off just letting the task force members give a briefing. But no, he has to make it all about him.
    - The only way you win is if America loses.

More empty nonsense. It doesn't matter what the thread title says. It's the same tired BS you folks have been spewing since Trump was elected. No problem though. November will decide it. You folks will win on a pile of dead Americans or you will become completely irrelevant...

The criminal IMPOTUS is an attention whore!

He cannot hold rallies so now he holds press conferences instead.

The media should be NOT be televising them at all.

These haven't been great for Trump, but he is miles ahead of how Biden would do.

Cuomo is handling the media interviews well when he doesn’t demagogue or go full socialist.

If he wasn't out there everyday, the leftists would say he was AWOL and demand his resignation.

No one listens to the left.

    Your first statement is speculation.

Cuomo is handling the interviews MUCH better than Trump. He looks informed, intelligent and in command. The opposite of Trump.

    good post.

I've really enjoyed the briefings and last night the news came on right after, no worries.

    but haters gotta hate.

it must be unhealthy to hate someone so much for so long, it turns minds to mush and they stop making sense.

Can't be healthy. How can we measure the number of lives that may be saved by Dr. Birx's story about her grandmother during the 1918 pandemic? I don't think they allow visitors to nursing homes during flu season in OH for that reason. People can walk around with no symptoms and kill old people inadvertently.

Trump is our President. He's attempting to calm and reassure us, and keep us up to date as this pandemic drags on. If you don't like it, turn off the television and wait for the mainstream media to spin it to your liking.

Some of you people with your neverending Trump-hate are pathetic.

There is nothing he could do to make you happy. Even if he did and said what you wanted, you would criticize him.

And needless to say you would be WRONG!

I am an equal opportunity critic and I have faulted Obama and Clinton for things they did wrong. I have also credited both Bush sr and jr for things that they got right.

Your criminal IMPOTUS has FAILED to get anything right so far. IF he ever does I will give him credit but the odds of that happening are slim and none at this stage of his ONE TERM regime.

I find it rather odd that some people seem to think that one must be either "on the Trump Train"--100 percent--or, alternatively, a part of the "Resistance."

I voted for Donald Trump in 2016.

There is over a 99 percent chance that I will do so again, in 2020.

But do you really believe that this means that he should be utterly above criticism from those who have given him their votes (unlike any previous president)?

Nope. Some people think when you start attributing selfish motives to people who never gave any evidence of selfishness, but were accused by Adolph Schiff and Nazi Pelosi for the purpose of damaging the President, you have earned the criticism.

I don't watch the news, don't watch briefings or speeches. (I just come to the forum and see why people are mad!)

My guess would be that he is trying to project an image of being on top of things. Keeping Americans calm is not easy without a pandemic. I think the opposition has done a good job of helping him appear as the voice of reason by comparison.

Trump has done a HORRIBLE job at these briefings.

His presence is unnecessary and distractive and he should leave the briefings to the doctors.

He gives the impression of someone who thinks he is the smartest person in the room but doesn't realise that he is the least smart person in the room.

And in those WH press conferences, he is certainly in the bottom 10% in terms of intelligence. Almost everyone else in that room got to where they are based on merit, and in their roles (yes, even the journalists) they need to be smart. He got to where he is based on popularity.
