    RIP
How old is the Queen now? Maybe they'll just forego the whole thing this time. Though I've read somewhere they actually MAKE money on the Royals.

Could one of them actually abolish the whole thing by Royal Decree?

    Objectively....

Isn't he "just" the guy of, who shows up. Gives moral support, but has little to no substance and was the guy who was sitting in the back?

Exit the quiet and solid guy in the background, the younger royals would benefit following his example. 99 years is a good run for anybody, RIP.

Her Majesty will be 95 on the 21st April.
It's a Constitutional Monarchy so the power to dissolve it lies with Parliament.

    RIP.

Not sure why the queen clings to the throne as opposed to passing it to her grandson. Just can't let go I suppose.

    Duty.
It goes to her son not her grandson.

    RIP.

He has been like that favorite uncle you have who makes the occasional none PC comments all my life. He was a brave man who fought in WW2 and as his generation are slowly passing I cannot help but think the UK is the poorer without them.

No, it will go to to the grandson. Charles will never be king. That is what I thought anyway......could be wrong. I thought there was some reason he can't be king. The divorce?

Unless the Queen outlives him, Charles will become King.
The line of succession is not optional.
William will have to wait his turn.

You mean the duty to live like a multi-billionaire your entire life all for doing nothing?

Yeh, well, we all have our cross to bear I suppose.

It is social media. Drama gets interactions and interactions boost your reputation. Maybe it is because I was raised in the south where people still have some modicum of decorum, but I am shocked by what people put out there on the interwebz.

"He (Prince Philip) retired from his royal duties on 2 August 2017, aged 96, having completed 22,219 solo engagements since 1952."

    1952-2017=65 years=23,725 days.

23,725-22,219=1,506 which comes out to an average of 23 days off per year from solo engagements alone. This number is certainly lower when factoring in joint engagements with the Queen and other members of the royal family.

Let us not also forgot his service during the Second World War where he was involved in the Battle of Crete, Battle of Cape Matapan, Allied invasion of Sicily, Operation Dragoon, Operation Robson, Operation Lentil, and the Battle of Okinawa.

Maybe you should strive to work as much as he did.
