The laws that prevent covert surveillence exist for a reason. What they did is classified imo as 'vigilante journalism'. What I mean by that is they intentionally broke the law to try and expose what they view as a flaw in the system. When one becomes a vigilante (and doing so is sometimes necessary imo), one accepts the legal ramifications of becoming a criminal. Its part and parcel of the sacrifice inherrent in being a vigilante. Its the cost of fighting an unjust/corrupt system. Hopefully they were prepared for this predictable outcome.

There's a huge huge difference between breaking and entering to violate someone's privacy, versus setting up a sting operation to record your interaction with that person. I believe you are grossly conflating the two. It is highly questionable whether this law should even exist.

Think about it. It's perfectly acceptable if a journalist has a conversation with someone, and then later acts like a witness to that conversation.
Why would/should it not be acceptable to secretly record it? The recording device is only seeing/hearing everything that you personally are seeing/hearing. And it is helping to provide proof that the conversation (or interaction) really did take place, as you will claim.

    The federal jury obviously disagreed.

Like I pointed out, the jury was in San Francisco, a notorious radically progressive place that would have wanted to cover up for the Abortion industry.

I doubt they would have been able to come to such a verdict in many other places.

This was about seeking vengeance against these activists for daring to expose the biggest Abortion provider in the country (and by so doing, implicitly wage political war on a woman's access to abortion).

    biased judge, biased jury

Tell yourself that if it makes you feel better. The guilty were judged and punished. Deal with it.

Its really easy to set someone up by creating context before recording. I don't think thats what happened here, but its a valid reason to restrict the practice. There's also the privacy issue. Even the sellers and distributors of baby parts have the right to a presumption of privacy in a private setting unless a warrant to do otherwise is issued by a judge and/or until they are convicted as criminals.

I commend the activists efforts of trying to take down these villains. But we can't undermine fundamentals of our justice system in doing so.

I can understand your argument, and believe that you are being genuine, but I will have to respectfully disagree.

Maybe that is just because I am very Libertarian-minded.

I think the argument about whether recording a conversation you are having with someone without their knowledge should be legal would be better discussed in the Law & Justice section of this forum.

I am really reluctant to support laws that make it illegal to reveal truths and inform the public without the approval of authorities.

Selling fetal parts is a felony and the Attorney General did nothing about that.....guess who the AG was at the time? None other than Kamala Harris.

Could because it was determined that the accusation was a bald-faced lie.

If the accusation is a lie, what did they capture on that video recording?
Are you saying the person they secretly recorded was just making things up?

The unedited video shows the accusations were a bald-faced lie. Deal with it. Find another hill to die on, this one's been taken.

So you're claiming the video was selectively edited to make it look like they were selling fetal body parts?

    Your own OP does...

The claim proved to be unfounded and the videos were found to be edited, according to thirteen state investigations into the matter. In addition, an investigation by the U.S. House of Representatives Oversight and Government Reform Committee also found no evidence to support the claims.

That doesn't appear to be quite true.
The Republican states only determined they could not find evidence of fetal sales going on inside their own states. Which is not that surprising.

Was the House under Democratic Party control at the time?

Nancy Pelosi was Speaker of the House at the time. She's a kind of whacky progressive from California who is super into women's rights and Planned Parenthood and that sort of thing.

The REPUBLICAN investigation that produced the first indictments is my personal fave... [IMG]

This week, a Harris County grand jury empaneled to investigate whether Planned Parenthood was illegally selling fetal tissue cleared the group of wrongdoing, instead indicting two anti-abortion activists behind the undercover recordings.

The indictments — for tampering with a governmental record and unlawfully offering to buy fetal tissue — surprised Republicans and Democrats. The investigation was initiated by Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson, a Republican, at the urging of Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.

“We were called upon to investigate allegations of criminal conduct by Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast,” Anderson said in a statement. “As I stated at the outset of this investigation, we must go where the evidence leads us."

Are they still her organs once they are outside of her body?
