These folks do not want others to speak of thing they do not agree with nor do they want to look at images of the founding fathers who are not just like their little black fake liberal hearts. What else can one conclude? Hope all democrats are not this nutty.

She was a slave, since when did slaves CHOOSE who they wanted to be with.

Historical sites aren't the same thing as statues or memorials. They are places where things happened. A statue is put up to honor someone or something and is inherently seen as positive.

That might be true, but If a large percentage of the student body disagrees I could see why the would choose to take it down.

Actually, she was free at the time she decided to return to America with Jefferson. They were in France, where slavery was legally abolished. The second Sally Hemmings stepped onto French soil, she was free. Yet she remained with Jefferson the entire time and returned with him to America. That is clear evidence of a choice being made.

Just because slavery was abolished in France doesn't mean she had a choice on whether to stay or return. She was his slave until his death. She agreed to return with him to the United States based on his promise to free their children when they came of age (at 21).

Actually, it does mean that. She was not a slave while she was in France. She was under no obligation to stay with Jefferson in France or to return to America with him. Yet she did so anyway.

Not while she resided in France.

See, you just proved me right with your own words. She AGREED to return to America with Jefferson. That's called a choice.

Clearly Sally wanted to be with Jefferson.......what women of those times wouldn't have........whether or not he was the father of one or more of her children is debatable.......

Slaves in France could walk away and be free under the French Laws the fact the young woman returned with Jefferson was a free choice. There was no way he could force her to return if she choice to stay in France.

But I say tear that statue down fair is fair anyone who dealt with slavery and has a statue should lose the statue.
