Well, at least on this board, the Hong Kong vote for liberty and self-government has silenced the pro-tyranny voices. Thank goodness for that. (Now just wait—some CPC propagandist and Xi Jinping water-boy will start blathering about how Hong Kong belongs to China because geography is everything and principles and honor are for fools and malcontents.)

On a rock in the middle of nowhere, on an island made of useless rocks, there came to be the richest, freest City/State the world had ever seen, Hong Kong. The greatest attribute? They knew how to live free and create wealth. It’s greatest sin? It show to whole world the virtue ofcapitalism and the evil of socialism.

Today they bravely fight to keep their liberty and prosperity.

    Excerpts:

“...with an average per capita income nearly six times that of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and an average life expectancy six years higher, Hong Kong stands as a vivid rebuke to the communist system of its giant neighbor.”

“Like a laboratory experiment, the Hong Kong/China divide proved that the same people, with similar cultural and historical circumstances and the same geography, would experience radically different outcomes based on the presence or absence of liberty. In half a century (during which the PRC murdered 7.7 million people as part of its “Cultural Revolution”) Hong Kong went from a barely noticeable industrial district to the city with more skyscrapers than any other.”

“In 2014, when protests erupted over the PRC’s decision to limit who can run for office in Hong Kong, the communists imprisoned pro-democracy activists, and the protests collapsed. Two years later, the PRC blocked six political candidates from Hong Kong’s Legislative Council because they refused to swear allegiance to the communist state. Then, in February 2019, a billwas proposed that would allow authorities toextradite Hong Kong citizens and try them in the PRC’s politically controlled courts.”

“. “We cannot give up,” one protestor told TheAtlantic recently. “If we do, there will be no future for us anyway. We might as well go downfighting.”

These are not pragmatists, they are “life” fighting to live free, for they know there is no other way.

Since you're so adamant about people giving their lives for your 'ideals', why didn't you join the protesters. I'm sure there were some liberal groups that would have funded you..

Anyway, it should make you happy to know that Ali Baba has left the NY stock exchange and rejoined the Hong Kong one, and that their stocks have skyrocketed. I guess it's back to business as usual. Hmmm, wonder what happened to the protesters?

First, I'm not a liberal, I'm a radical for Individual Rights, Reason, and Capitalism.
Second, I'm opposed to anyone sacrificing their lives for any reason.
    And lastly, time will tell.

I don't believe in cultural interference but I do believe in growth - especially spiritual and moral growth. As for standards, everyone can have their own and no one should bow to the standards of others as being superior - no matter how arrogant they act.:oldman:

There is only one standard of morality, reason; and it applies to only “Man’s” life as “Man”. That which benefits the life of a rational being is the “good”; that which harms it is the “bad.”

For example, a culture that elects a murdering psychopath as leader is an evil culture, and any cultural that’s has as one of it principles, the Rights of Man, is the good and has every moral right to wipe the evil, rotten, despicable culture out of the universe, such primitive cultures as cannibal tribes, and modern fascists cultures, such as Putin’s Russia.

Ayn Rand: “Since reason is man’s basic means of survival, that which is proper to the life of a rational being is the good; that which negates, opposes or destroys it is the evil. Since everything man needs has to be discovered by his own mind and produced by his own effort, the two essentials of the method of survival proper to a rational being are: thinking and productive work.”—http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/morality.html

If they can't affect change, yes. Coexistence, even if begrudgingly is better than destroying themselves.

This will piss off China, the CPC, Jinping, Putin, Maduro, Kim, the Socialists, the Progressives, and the college snowflakes—Imagine, idealistic youth of a foreign nation, in defiance’s of collectivist tyranny, sing proudly and and gratefully, the American National Anthem; but in America, the college Left loves denigrating, mocking, and pissing on the American flag. Go fkn figure.

Hong Kong protesters sing American national anthem and chant ‘USA, USA’

If the incredible happens, and Hong Kong successfully defends it right to live by its own self-government in the name of Liberty, I suspect Venezuela and North Korea will face massive uprisings...maybe even Russia.

Wonder who’s wetting their pants today, the Hong Kong idealists or the vile dicatators, Xi Jinping,Putin, Kim, and Maduro.
