    why?

their economy is going well - its booming in fact.

but tens of thousands of Israelis want it to be better.

they want affordable housing, free education, better health care ... they want a welfare state that delivers more equitably.

    http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/meast/07/31/israel.protests/

imagine that ... and so many right wing americans support this leftist state!

It's nice to see someone admit that welfare states exist. Many progressives deny it.

Because it is a bastion of freedom in a land full of hate and violence.

Because it is a shield which will take the blows of the global genocidal jihad.

Honestly they will not receive free education and free health care. Every single nation which has it can barely support it and is in deep red debt.

Evidently housing is too costly... and many wealthy Jews who are dual citizens and only live there half a year have inflated the market dramatically.. or at least the young people and elderly believe that to be the case.

Which part of "soaring costs for the middle class" wasn't clear? Of course a demonstration would bring out the left wingnuts, but there is a very real issue of rising costs eroding take home income of the average Israeli household, and a shortage of housing driving up both rental and purchase costs and thus depleting the discretionary income even more. Instead of trying to make trite and inaccurate political points based solely on ideology it might be more interesting to discuss the actual situation and what that means for Israeli politics.

The housing issue and the perceived reasons for it have been in the Israeli news for over a year.

They claim that wealthy dual citizens who want to winter in Israel have bought apartments in Jerusalem and driven the prices out of reach for young working Israelis.

Its hardly NEWS.... But check for yourself on the accuracy of Israeli news reports over the past year or so.

Because while the views of many Israelis on the role of government in their lives and the social contract differ somewhat from the views of right-leaning americans, their views on freedom, liberty, pursuit of happiness, the right of self-defense, western-values, democracy, rule of law etc are pretty much identical.

The right-leaning (and in fact most left-leaning americans have correctly identified the victim and underdog in this conflict (yes 5.5 mln Israelis occupying 0.2% of the land, not 350mln arabs occupying 99.8% of the land are the real underdog) and their support is not just based on common values, it's also based on their morality and sense of justice.

Identical ? I don't believe you have access to the full picture. Zionists in Israel are engaged in illegal occupation, ethnic cleansing and apartheid, or ' hafrada ' as it is known there. They are also accused of war crimes and in breach of a multitude of United Nations resolutions. They murdered nine Turkish peace activists recently- for which Turkey is striving to receive compensation- and they murdered 400 Palestinian children, along with a thousand other people, over christmas, 2008/9 in one operation alone. The Zionist parliament is also engaged in an agenda of racist laws. Anybody calling this fascist program even similar to American democracy deserves to be sent to live in it.

See, this old litany of the same whiny complaints does not get you anywhere. The americans we are talking about know full well that the occupation is fully legal, they know when/why it started and how it needs to end and who is at fault that it has not, they know that the minority population does not quadruple after ethnic cleansing, they know who is responsible for each new cycle of violence, who builds rocket launchers in school yards and who builds bomb shelters instead, they know about arab members of the Israeli government elected and representing their arab constituency and in their book it's a sign of flourishing democracy, certainly not of an apartheid state.

Your compendium of Zionist propaganda is outdated and invalid.

Cluelessness in a pathetic attempt at defense, yet again? Where was the 'hiding behind women' and 'human shields' cliche?
Your post remains where it should be; in the realms of a deluded fantasy world.

If there is any real decency in Israel this protest will result in an ass-kicking for Zionism.

' Anarchy ' being people not doing what Zionists instruct them to do.

Betwen 100,000 and 150,000 took to the streets in 12 cities last night yelling "Bibi Go Home"..

Bibi must have been too busy asking for more money and screwing around with the Flotilla to pay attention.

Up to 150,000 protesters took to the streets in cities across Israel on Saturday night in the biggest demonstrations the country has seen in decades to demand action on rising house prices and rents, low salaries, the high cost of raising children and other social issues..."we don't want to replace the government, but to do more than that. We want to change the rules of the game"..."The people are loyal to the state, but the state isn't loyal to them." Noam Shalit, the father of captured soldier Gilad Shalit, also spoke at the rallyl

The protests are purely economical and social, certainly not political. Good for Israel and Israeli working people, great for Israeli democracy! The irony of the Israel-hating radical fringe which out of desperation is trying to pretend/mislead/lie that these protests have something to do with their radical anti-Israel agenda is inescapable. The protests will make Israel, its people, its middle-class stronger and wealthier, Israel's democracy even more vibrant, the zionist convictions of the Israeli people even more justified and firm.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zA5is7IcEqA"]‪'Judaism Yes, Zionism No': Ultra-Orthodox Jews march against Israel‬‏ - YouTube[/ame]

"free free palestine....judiasm YES, zionism NO, Israel, must GO"

    'dismantle israel'

    http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1061922328145

We are not calling for populist economic measures that will endanger economic stability. We are demanding a deep change in priorities. We are fed up with carrying on our backs freeloaders and messianic madmen; we are tired of serving in the reserves, paying taxes and getting raped. We are tired of our legislators in our shameful parliament who are frightened of violent minorities.

    Wow!!!!

Absolutely!!! Down with freeloaders, messianic madmen, violent minorities... Power (and prosperity) to the hard-working people of Israel, power to build a better, ever more prosperous, secure and democratic home for the Jews!

PS I am thrilled even Israel-haters agree with the message :) LOL

    screw the 'power'.

each are equal and if you want to 'bow down' to the 'power' of israel, go ahead.

You can kiss my behind too (zionist or not).

i dont see many israel 'haters' i am reading the some are maturing and some are just in love with the 'power'.

i will promise, each will either be on the 'good' side or perish, like it or not!

The point you are missing is 'the people' of israel are against the idiots who are ruining the 'power' pursuit you hold do dear.

It is ironic that you love israel but are against 'the people' of israel who dont like the bigotry of their own countries actions, causes and the nutballs of the religious state.

It is almost as weird as American's (many) hate Obama, but the majority voted for him.

lots of freaky bs going on all over the world. I personally am about just waiting for the first firecracker to pop, as then i know what to do next.

My advice, buy seed and get out of the cities.

I think more left wing jews support the Isreals. It is evident by the masses who own, operate and edit the broadcast media corporations, and the entertainment news industry.

However, the right wing banks, and investment bankers and realestate moguls do not favor any free anything. They want people to pay them for everthing even if they don't own it.

depends who you are talking to.

but that isn''t the issue - all these people on this forum who support Israel hate much milder "leftists" in their own country - why is "leftism" OK when its in Israel, not OK in the US, and not OK when it is in europe?
