KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — President Vladimir Putin dramatically escalated East-West tensions by ordering Russian nuclear forces put on high alert Sunday, while Ukraine’s embattled leader agreed to talks with Moscow as Putin’s troops and tanks drove deeper into the country, closing in around the capital.

Citing “aggressive statements” by NATO and tough financial sanctions, Putin issued a directive to increase the readiness of Russia’s nuclear weapons, raising fears that the invasion of Ukraine could boil over into nuclear war, whether by design or mistake.

The Russian leader is “potentially putting in play forces that, if there’s a miscalculation, could make things much, much more dangerous,” said a senior U.S. defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Amid the mounting tensions, Western nations said they would buy and deliver weapons for Ukraine, including Stinger missiles for shooting down helicopters and other aircraft, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office announced plans for a meeting with a Russian delegation at an unspecified location on the Belarusian border.

Doesn't seem to be much for me to add. I already have an "OPINIONS" thread, discussing, prospectively, Putin's psychological instability. So community awareness of an important news development, is my main consideration, in posting this.

I remember when the leftist media cabal coordinated an extended news cycle around the notion of having to remove nuclear launch capabilities from Trump because of how 'unstable' he was. Of course they bit into that cake of fake news just as they're biting into the current highly-edited fake news about Trump calling Putin a genius.

Pay attention leftos, this is what unstable looks like.

    1- I think it’s a total bluff
2- if he’s not bluffing, may as well get the party started anyway

Your take, that Putin was just blowing smoke, seems to be what I'm hearing, has been the international reaction, to this. If the expert, and other talking heads are correct, there has been no sign that any change has actually occured, in Russian nuclear readiness; and the U.S. response was characterized as, ho- hum, "that's nice; our own nuclear forces are always 'on alert'." So, it would appear, Putin has so overplayed his hand, that even his mention of nuclear weapons is being almost shrugged off, and seen as matter- of- course, simply expected, behavior.

I'm a little bit worried for you, Apex. Your overall post is hard to make sense of. While I now think that you were saying, essentially, "see, Trump wasn't crazy-- now this, is crazy!" which would at least be a defendable point, it still begs the question: why is this, in any way, "about Trump," in your mind? I'm sure you have chuckled over others, from the Democratic side, who try to bring Donald Trump into every argument, haven't you?

But your final statement could, alternatively, go in a different direction:
From your other comments-- as I'd said, seemingly out of place, in this thread-- your words could be taken to be suggesting that this story, of Putin putting their nuclear response on "alert," is all fake news, and an example of the "unstable" behavior, of the MSM, which is what you are telling "leftos," to regard, closely.
    To wit:

So, were you trying to suggest that the MSM's saying, the Kremlin announced this, was fake news? If so, it might interest you to know that the leftist media cabal, is mostly yawning at this, as: Soviet leaders, obsessed with reminiscences of past glory, will do what this leader has shown that he does, as standard practice.

Also, I can't help but be curious, since you brought this up (a bit, out of the blue-- if you'll forgive the expression), how were Trump's comments, "highly edited," to misrepresent his general viewpoint? The clips I've heard, have been sizable, in length, and do not seem, credibly, to be saying anything that isn't, actually, praising of President Putin.

Can you provide at least one quote that the media has been distorting, by showing how Trump's words that have been edited out, would truly put the comment, in a different light?

Putin did the same thing when he took over Crimea.

The media is now trying to portray Putin as being psychotic. Drum roll please........

I re-read it twice, of course it is my own words but I don't sense the point was veiled. Its a comparative commentary referencing two prior relative subjects as frames for the OP's subject. Putin is unstable and hes throwing nuclear threats around. Trump never unstable (underwent a cognitive test remember) despite far-left media's constant insistence to the contrary. An insistence that was so prolific that one of our own Generals was brainwashed into committing high-treason on the belief Trump would use nukes; relative to the recent news cycle where once again leftist media is fabricating an anti-Trump narrative.
