The people in the former Novorussiya speak Russian, marry Russians and go to school in Russia. It wouldn't make much of a difference if they held Russian or Ukrainian passports, their hatred for the mafia and Nazis from Western Ukraine who want to take their historical homeland is the same.

Anyway the regime in Kiev are complete idiots. Russia didn't want
the Donbass, that was the intent of the Minsk agreement... but they screwed it. They stopped the pensions and all commerce and banking activity and by doing so forced the people to use the Russian Ruble instead of the Ukrainian currency.

They cut off all power so it's being supplied by Russia. They then refused the coal from the Russian mines and forced the Donbass Republics to nationalize them and sell them to Russia. In other words they made the Republics a part of Russia... and then they go about bragging about their successes in assassinating Russian heroes.

Anyway there are no Russians in Ukraine in an official capacity, they are volunteers. There are loads of Americans though, and as a German comedienne once said, they are no doubt there to direct traffic.
